Yep the ol' 9th as it was once known is no longer.... It most likely will be controlled by the Houston area voters...

The one thing to watch with the loss of the east Texas Representatives although democrats is the water rights that Houston has been clamering for over the past many years... With new Reps having a strong tie to the Houston area then look for the water diversions to occur at some point..... just my gut feeling.

Or are there other things that can trigger redistricting?

Uh, discounting yer typical Rat's sleazy lawsuits...

Actually, the Constitution says there should be a census every ten years, but it does not mention redistricting. For the first 60 or so years of the 20th Century, TN never redistricted. That situation led to Baker v. Carr in 1962, in which the Supreme Court ordered redistricting ever ten years.

Special redistricting can be ordered by courts. Usually this is done if there are found "violations" of the Voting Rights Act.

Dr. Paul's (R) next to his title will save him in Galveston County. Galveston County Republicans would rather have a stronger conservative Representative, but the will pull together for a Republican incumbant for two reasons - 1) there are no other strong Republican candidates ready to mount a campaign against him in next year's primary, and 2) they want to make sure they have a strong candidate to beat any Democrat thay might jump into the race.

About the only other thing that might trigger redistricting at any time is someone taking the case to court saying that they don't like how the lines are drawn...

What would stop a state legislature from redistricting as ofter as it wanted? Nothing limits it to once after every census does it?

His new district goes into heavily Repub. Montgomery Co.

Much of his old district goes into the 8th which will be new for you all, but Turner's residence goes into the 6th with Joe Barton....

"Please keep in mind that Dog Gone is a lawyer from California, thus weird! The only delay that helps us is spelled DeLay! ;-)"

Nope. Your neck of the woods, actually.

It's the same way here in Victoria County. I have relatives from Clear Lake to Galveston.

'Bout what I had figgered. In which case that leads us to another discussion. Something has got to be done about the U.S. Senate Rats blocking "W's" judicial appointments. Maybe they're diggin' their own hole. Hope springs...

A mixed blessing to be sure. I say give the Rats the cities; we'll take the suburbs and rural areas......God's country!

Just so. About all that's left is Sam Rayburn, and I'm not sure Houston doesn't have some claim on it already. They have all but claimed the water rights to every body of water within a hundred miles larger than a stock tank. Developing indeed...

You may want to look at the USC and read the section the the link below.......

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/2/2a.html

(c)
Until a State is redistricted in the manner provided by the law thereof after any apportionment, the Representatives to which such State is entitled under such apportionment shall be elected in the following manner:

Legaleze ain't my strong suit, but it appears to call for redistricting every ten years(after census?). I didn't note any exceptions in there; however there may be other sections that speak to that???

Do you know the particulars of the map? Does it get rid of Frost and Doggett for sure?

Comparing the old 24th to the new 24th, it appears Frostie may need to seek alternate employment. Much of the new map includes suburban areas between Ft. Worth and Dallas...probably Bush Country ;^)

I would love to see that lout defeated.

I know little about the man, except to say that the few times I have seen him, his whiner was stuck.

I've seen far too much of him in office for far too long. My grandmother said he use to be a local weather man decades ago. I wonder if she had that right. In any case, he's been at the public trough long enough.

I stand corrected. Thank you, T.R.
