Senior Director of the Social Action Office, Tom Allio.

Umm, is he the Senior Director of the Social Action Office of the Diocese of Cleveland or of the DNC?

2. A creeping fundamentalism within the church provides space for some to demonize others (i.e. the notion that you can’t be a good Catholic and vote for John Kerry).

"But, it is certainly appropriate for me to demonize my political opponents." - Tom Allio

"Forget 'good' Catholic, you can't be any kind of Catholic and consider Kerry a legitimate option." - siunevada

A thousand gazoonies for the FReeper that can guess the song with these lyrics for they read the end of the post...

"Well, send'em you your heart
So they know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us
By turning stone to bread
And so we all must lend a helping hand"

The above lyrics came from a song in the 80s where many pop artists wanted to raise food for a starving nation. The food bought from the song's profits was sold off by the regime oppressing the nation and the money used to buy more weapons for their ongoing war. But take a close look at the horrific lyrics "As God has shown us, By turning stone to bread". Now wait one cotton-pickin'minute! God never turned stones to bread! That was in reference to Satan tempting Jesus in the desert. I Googled "stones to bread" and haven't come up with a miracle. If some can inform me of otherwise, please let me know! But "stones to bread" is not Manna from Heaven. (My thanks to my mom for pointing this out to me in my childhood.)

----
As I recall, the "Seamless Garment" wasn't anything that Jesus gave us, but was actually clothing that was taken from Him and gambled away to a lucky winner. What are theologians taking away from us by building a logic around a "seamless garment"?

Oh, and if you haven't guessed the song, it's "We are the World". http://www.inthe80s.com/weworld.shtml

I don't condemn the artists for this silly song. I'm sure that their hearts were trying to do the right thing for starving Ethiopians.
