SOUTH BARRINGTON, IL – In perhaps the most extreme example to date of churches halting ministries during the traditionally slower summer months, Willow Creek Community Church – one of America's prototypical mega-churches – has decided to close its doors until after Labor Day.

Will they reopen in the fall?

This is absurd. People need to be strengthened by God at all times!

Maybe some of those former Catholics will “come home” to the Catholic Church that does NOT shut down during the summer!

My post was SARCASM, people.

If you have seen me post on the subject of mega-churches before, you should know that I despise mega-churches and their continuous placing of hypocrites, liars, “lovers of filthy lucre”, and purveyors of blasphemy into the public eye.

It appears that the article was actually a send-up also, but considering Osteen’s disastrous Christmas vacation a few years ago, it is painfully close to the mark.

said Willow Creek Senior Pastor Bill Hybels
If people are going to put their spiritual growth on hold until September anyway, why should the church fight it?”

COMMENT:

Gosh you blooming idiot, open your bible.

Can anyone tell me what denomination this church belongs?

I would guess that it is one of those multicultural jump and shout churches.

These stories confirm why God is/has turning/turned away from America.

Sounds like a smart business decision to me

First this is a Joke so relax. but all joking aside this would not be a good business decision at all.

1. closing would open the doors for other churches to serve the one who attend the most. leaving only the part time worshiper who also give the lest and cost the most.

Makes me happy to be a Catholic. Even during summertime when things do slow down, there is still Sunday Mass.

Yep, even in the big old stone buildings with no A/C and 95* weather outside, Mass still goes on!

A precursor to “churches” that only open their doors on Cristmas & Easter...

If I remember correctly, there were some churches that closed on Christmas because they thought their congregation would prefer to be home with their families instead.

Amazing! They're taking a vacation from God in the summer? I've never heard of this before.

That is terrific, the saved may find a new Church where Jesus is Lord and not men !

ROTFL! From your link...

Make Fun of the Amish Day
Mennonite Brethren Assembly – Pottsville, PA
Influential youth group members Stephen Williams and Chuck Truman lead this annual event once again. Sources say this event, in keeping with a two-year tradition, will consist of sitting on a hill overlooking a field where those goofy-looking Amish guys are harvesting corn using only a mule-drawn cart and a hand operated scythe. With any luck, the one guy's daughters will come out of the farmhouse so students in attendance can scoff at their outdated dresses and bonnets. (This event is unofficial and is not sanctioned by the Mennonite Brethren, its official board or any member of its staff.)

The day when God says we can put on hold the work of the Kingdom of God and of Christ and of saving souls, I will find this a reasonable situation.
