It’s about time the Vatican woke up to this reality. As much as I admired JPII - he was too conciliatory toward Islam (how long before someone posts the infamous Koran kiss? :-)) This pope seems to be slowly addressing the reality we face in Christendom.

The Vatican "woke up" to this a l-o-n-g time ago, like in the Crusades! This isn't NEW for Catholics either.

Maybe YOU should wake up and read your history. :-))

Besides, it's not the JOB of the Vatican alone to deal with Islam. The countries of Europe and the West have WELCOMED Muslims and allowed them entry, free and clear. How does a FREE country STOP Muslims from entering their countries ... when said countries boast of "freedom of religion"?

The pope is "slowly" doing everything because he is the head of a 2,000 year old church, as the successor to the ROCK on which Jesus built His church. To react fast or knee-jerk is the ballywick of foolish politicians and people who don't THINK things through.

Thanks to all who read this and have replied. It is important to understand that not only the Vatican, but all persons who respect religious freedoms need to acknowledge the danger that Islam is to our western culture.

I have no doubt that there are some folks in this religion who have become democratized and do not adhere to the redical fundamentalists among their faith, but with all the hatred the Islamists spew forth against anyone who criticizes them, it is more necessary than ever before that we all stand together in this battle.

By-the-way, I agree that the Catholic Church has NOT been late in acknowledging this danger. On the contrary, it is the leftists and secularists who have been ominously quiet - even though they will be among the first to be beheaded if the terorists get their way. Whenever the Pope has mentioned a problem with the radicals in the Muslim world, he (the Pope) has been labelled by the main stream media as intolerant, not the radicals. Go figure!
