Congratulations, Biggirl. I did not know that, about you being in the lay order. I liked when he said today, “First, we must listen,” or something like that... talking about contemplation. Everything he said was like the most nutritious food for the soul.

Thank-you for your good words and God Bless. A lesson in the need for comtemplation.

I came home from Mass just in time to hear the Litany of the Saints...it was glorious! The energy in the city this weekend is magical indeed.

DO you know how the 25,000 came to attend?

Not totally positive but I believe each diocese and eparchy were given a limited number of tickets. Originally they expected 10,000 ... apparently, like the miracle of the loaves and fishes, the number of tickets grew :-)

I wanted to take our 4 older youth to this event and we contacted our bishop through the pastor. His advice was to stay home and watch it on tv (because of the high security). Nothing like front row seats :-)

Thanks, NYer .. guess sharing the wealth is what this Papal visit was all about. I agree with your bishop ... those high security events require you to arrive hours before the main event, the traffic is atrocious, and you can’t see a thing. MUCH better to watch on tv, tho there is something to be said for the excitement the crowd generates and to know you’re part of something historic.

I just saw the Litany of Saints segment. I've heard this version before and don't have problems with it.

Except....

Did you notice that at the start - where the Church always invokes the Persons of the Blessed Trinity first - the response was "Pray for us". I was shocked! MAJOR, MAJOR theological blunder. The correct response is "Have Mercy on us".

It is the Saints whom we ask to pray for us.

You are correct on that point. The response is “have mercy on us”. Someone got ahold of a bad translation from the Latin.

Regards

I heard on EWTN a couple of days ago they’re something like $600,000 in debt.

So I’m here to plead on their behalf that if anyone can spare some $$$$ to make a donation to help, that would be great. Big or small, all appreciated!

Especially for those who have benefitted from their excellent coverage of the Papal visit. Many times the local stations just didn’t show the full coverage and if it wasn’t for EWTN, we would’ve only seen snippets. But thanks to Mother Angelica’s hard work and all those at EWTN, we were able to share in the joy of ALL the events.

Go here to donate:

Please forward this message onto all your Catholic/Christian friends in the hope they can find it in their hearts to contribute so that EWTN may continue its excellent work.

(Can someone please send a Catholic ping to this message please? Thanks.)

What?!?! I did not see that part, and can hardly believe you are right, of course I’m not saying you aren’t...it’s just incredible. You can find any of the Church litanies in about five minutes on Catholic websites, or just pick up an old missal. A “bad translation” is no excuse, anyone who thought for 2 seconds about what they were saying would realize that makes absolutely no sense.

This coupled with the weirdest so-called “Ave Maria” (it wasn’t) I ever heard makes me feel the youth of America might not have made much impression on Benedict, except with their obvious need for catechesis. However, I suppose their warmth and enthusiasm compensated for their ignorance a bit.

Oh, my dear, I did not realize you were newly Catholic! Welcome and that is so nice to hear! I’m sorry if my words seemed overly critical about the singing. I think this Kelly probably was misled, being awfully young and possibly not yet having studied Latin for her musical career, and not knowing the prayer because in her life she’s probably only heard it in English. She sang a contemporary version that was a weird combination of the real prayer (the”Hail Mary”) and some other stuff that someone probably told her was the real thing. The complete (the one and only) “Ave Maria” in Latin:

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum,
benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.
Sancta Maria mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.

Also, if you don’t know about them, two programs you might like on EWTN are Fr. Mitch Pacwa, SJ on “Threshold of Hope” and Fr. Trugilio on “Web of Faith”.

I suggest taking the money we usually send to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, Catholic Charities, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and Catholic Relief Services, or any other leftist-leaning “Catholic” umbrella groups, and send it to EWTN instead! Or ALL, C-FAM, or HLI. Then we can at least know our money isn’t going to global warming campaigns, sex-ed programs, or law firms that defend illegals.

You're right ... I had not realized it. They probably should have stuck with the Latin version which evoked such a positive response after it was chanted at JPII's funeral.

Someone made a big goof if that occurred. I was just looking at the Litany of Saints in our parish hymnal, and did a quick search on the internet and they have the proper “have mercy on us” and “pray for us” responses.
