It must be a stressful life. We need to let them have some little minor “vices” after all!

I saw JPII in 1979...I was a student at Catholic University whe he came and it was a magnificent experience. 30 years later I can remember every detail of that day.

I tried to get into the city to see Benedict at CUA but couldn't make it. Doesn't really matter though. I would only have been able to see him drive by. This trip is more about hearing what he has to say...he has been speaking directly to my heart this week. I love what he has had to say.

Patton, I believe you can get the transcript on EWTN’s website. The nice thing about this particular talk, the Holy Father was giving specific advice for the spiritual life. Prayer (personal and silent), Mass and Charity, and listening for God’s “particular vocation for you.” “Prayer is hope in action.” Maybe concepts easy to apply to real life!

It won’t be nice if he gets emphysema, of course. But, it is kind of funny the way you know unmistakeably when he is in the rectory.

By the way, Ray Arroyo sounded like he didn’t approve of Kelly Clarkson singing the Ave. I thought she toned down her pop inflections and I don’t hear most words anyway, so don’t know which words were wrong. :)

Thanks - my frustration was because I wanted hear his emphasis, and his pronunciation.

And, to tell you the truth, I found those FNC talking heads very offensive - It is a cultural thing, I suppose.

Oh, that’s beautiful. I loved this morning’s homily and his address to the seminarians just now. It’s all of one theme. Let us truly practice our faith, live our faith and bring others into the fold. I know I’m over-simplifying and he is saying it in ever-more elegant language.

Since we watched live, we received the blessing, right?

Fr. Neuhaus in his rather dry way just said something about “a great deal of variation in the music” and then repeated with emphasis, “a VERY GREAT deal...”

He didn’t point out Kelly by name, and I can’t fault the girl for trying, she’s obviously ignorant but seemed sincere, it should have been the organizers responsibility to find a suitable singer. She is not to blame, she did the best she could and maybe some of those misplaced breaths were due to nervousness.

I've come to like Fr. Neuhaus; I hadn't seen him before.
Ray has an interesting entry in his blog today: The Forgotten Mother

Yes, and remember to cross yourself as the Holy Father gives the blessing, but if you forgot that it still applies.

Oh my gosh, I just read that, interesting. It seems like someone did mention Mother Angelica over the past few days, we’ve had so much coverage I don’t remember what commentator. She did almost miraculously build EWTN, if you have not read Arroyo’s book about her, very, very interesting what she had to go through. It’s also impressive the station has remained a bastion of orthodoxy, and I hope it will.

Fr. Neuhaus is a real intellectual. His magazine, First Things, has deep articles on matters of faith and the Church. But I never knew until this coverage he is a convert! Seems EWTN did a good job asking him to participate, he explained so many things that many people would not know about on the surface.

So do I. And also, on another note, a little concerned seeing Holy Father coughing and realizing how he has been out in the elements so much on this trip.

I thought the Pope looked years older this morning in St. Pat.'s cathedral than earlier this week at the White House.

Hope he is OK.

Seen the whole youth gathering and at the end when Kelly Clarkson had sang the song “Ave Maria”, I had tears in my ears. It was a blessed moment.

I haven’t read Arroyo’s bio of Mother Angelica. I have read her “Little Book of Life Lessons and Everyday Spirituality” which he edited. I intend to re-read it.

Having just been confirmed in the Catholic faith this Easter Vigil, I feel that my formation is just beginning!

He did look a bit tired this morning, but he smiled a bit towards the end. Also he was just beaming when he met these young people. He was smiling A LOT. He looked a bit rested. Must have taken a nap during the afternoon.

Having struggle with have a spiritual life all during my adult life having been recieved into the lay third order Carmelites early last month, I must REALLY get into the need for prayer and silence just as the Pope has said. Plus reading good spiritual books as well. He put me to shame with that wonderful talk to the young people. A little WYD gathering. He was truly filled with the Holy Spirit and also has learned well from his predecesor.

Heard about it when the young people were presenting the Pope with one of the pictures of the saints.
