Well, Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI), while performing the duties of Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, wrote Instruction on certain aspects of the "Theology of Liberation" – Libertatis nuntius back in 1984. That document pretty well categorically denounces the perversion of the Christian message within the Marxist hermeneutic and the attempt to devolve Christianity into a Class struggle (which is essentially what liberation theology does).
