Where would the world be if Martin Luther hadn’t given Catholics a hard time? I’m sure we never saw an opus from Pope Leo X.

I just had birthday #44 and for the first time ever, feel my age--so I'll take being called "newbie" any day!

I’m Catholic and there is no way in heaven or hell that I would participate in open thread dicussions with the people here about our religion, Judith Anne. I am curious as to why so many Catholics even feel the need to speak to those on here who are one deminational in their understanding of our religion. Who really cares? Jesus is perfectly capable of taking care of this bunch. You are not the Savior nor the wrath of such cagey souls.

Trying to reason with the dominant “Christian” group on Free Repulic who harasses Catholics is like the Jew trying to win the affection of a Muslim group. The cuts are deep and designed to destroy your faith and spirit. What is the attraction to the abuse that goes on in these discussions? Does anyone think this is what Christ would do or that this is what He would want Catholics or Christians to do in His name?

Judith Ann, bless your heart, you hurt yourself by placing your pearls in front of swine. You did it to yourself and other Catholics do the same thing on here in open religion threads, day after day. This is like a spiritual sword fight on both sides - slash, rip, tear. If nothing else, learn that lesson. Your relationship with Christ is holy and precious and you never lay it out to be walked upon by people who know no better. It is not “freerepublic” that did this to you Judith Anne, it is you who did this to the holy part of yourself.

Your friends don’t want you to leave but do leave the destructive, soul eating threads that are known as “open” religion threads. I have never seen anything quite like it.

Christians must never walk away from evil, but it’s ok to turn your back to the likes of those already cast. Their role is to debilitate and rot on the edge of a black hearted life. Just walk away from the chaff of irrelevance.

Read anew and refresh into Goodness away from the chaff to renew your blessings. Behold and Beware of the whore of the Reformation, which speaks loudly and says nothing until cast...there is no saving some, so no invitation should be sent to an ass.

In other words, take a break and come back and ignore the chaff.

LOL Yeah, you guys really get it from every side!

While I think that the teachings of Joseph Smith are, frankly, nutty, I also think there are a lot of real Christians in the LDS despite its heretical doctrine. “By their fruits shall ye know them” and all that. I always make sure to take up for the many good Mormons on FR (not Mormonism, mind you — individual Mormons) because we’re on the same team with regard to the culture wars. Catholics and` Mormons working together have defeated “gay marriage” in 31 straight elections — that’s not something to be ignored on the basis of theological differences.

Sorry that they got you so fed up as to let them win.

It's nothing new. And it won't go away.

If you check the thread before logging out, try to remember the words of our esteemed Religion Moderator:

The demeanor of the poster says more about his own confession than the post says about yours. When he is being rude or mean it drives people away from his confession and towards yours. That is of course if you can resist the urge to meet fire with fire, in which case neither confession is appealing to the lurkers. The poster who “turns the other cheek” wins every single time.

If the other guy is throwing spitwads at you on an “open” thread it probably means he has run out of ammunition. Take it as a backhanded compliment. You won, walk away.

Regardless, I wish you the best regardless of what you end up doing.

Love your Tagline.

The Liberals want us to Eat our Dogs.

Now why would anyone do that?

Dogs can be very useful in a variety of ways.

Now Liberals on the other hand are not even as useful as Flies,
But I don’t think Nancy would be very tasty with all that Botox.

Try being Mormon on here.

Yeah, y'all got it pretty rough on here, try being an ex-Catholic and watch what happens. It drives the Catholics nuts on here everytime they learn one has wised up and 'left the flock.'

I am fed up with anti-Catholic bigots.

After 9 years, I would hope no one else would take my name, but if they do, it isn't me. GrannyK is also not me, although I used that name on Lucianne for years before joining FR. Someone else is using it here, now.

You call that an Opus?

Hey Doc/Aex, who was the Proddie Bashing Catholic Podiatrist who wrote the really impressive Opus! My mind has blanked on his name, but THAT was an Opus!

Since I have never shied away from the tons of anti-Protestant bigots on FR, I can't swear about how to carry out an Opus, but I think it would help to actually ping a Mod to delete your account.

See you when you are self-resurrect under a new name.

Don’t let the Snake-Handlers and followers of Osama bin Calvin get to ya, JA.

Interesting that this is a group whine about the alleged anti-Catholicism and you show the true color of the issue, the constant Proddie bashing that goes on here.

Face it, the policy of the Catholic Church is that we are heretics and we are reminded of that by FR Catholics on a daily basis.

Dear Judith Anne,

I don't know if you remember having a brief discussion with me, about my making a spiritual journey and finding myself years later, back where I had begun.

The driving force of that journey was often the behavior of the actions of the different churches. I am not talking about the different religions, but the people, the churches.

It was because of the people in those churches I took that long atheist sabbatical which turned out to be a search for God.

I don't visit the religion threads too often. The few times I have two things happen. First I am reminded of my spiritual journey and the painful people who tried to drive me away from God in their zealotry. Second, my gratitude for the journey and the one pearl I asked God for and was given...wisdom. It is the one request God promises to give us if we ask, pray for wisdom. James 1:5.

And so my FRiend, take a sabbatical. It is OK to do that. Seek God's promises and I hope to see you soon.

"Face it, the policy of the Catholic Church is that we are heretics"

Here is the policy of the Catholic Church

817 In fact, "in this one and only Church of God from its very beginnings there arose certain rifts, which the Apostle strongly censures as damnable. But in subsequent centuries much more serious dissensions appeared and large communities became separated from full communion with the Catholic Church - for which, often enough, men of both sides were to blame."269 The ruptures that wound the unity of Christ's Body - here we must distinguish heresy, apostasy, and schism270 - do not occur without human sin:

Where there are sins, there are also divisions, schisms, heresies, and disputes. Where there is virtue, however, there also are harmony and unity, from which arise the one heart and one soul of all believers.271

818 "However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers .... All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church."272

819 "Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth"273 are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: "the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements."274 Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church. All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him,275 and are in themselves calls to "Catholic unity."276

838 "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter."322 Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."323 With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound "that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord's Eucharist."324

Source CCC.

Regards.

As Opus go, you was a bit of a disappointment, oh well. I’ve not detected any anti-Catholic bigotry here. I guess I’m now a Catholic by default since my faith as become unreconizable as a Christain faith. If it helps you can send the bigots my way :). I’m pretty good at bashing bigots. It’s easy and fun. So for what it is worth, I say you should stay. At least long enough to put together a proper (and entertaining) Opus.
