Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

You know that edifice was being built during the reformation with the pennies of the poor trying to buy the souls of loved ones out of purgatory..or themselves later on.. also the sale of "relics." some "real" some not, but not one of them of any spiritual benefit..

That was one of the things that drove the desire to reform the church ... and ended up with geneva being a model of Christian charity under Calvin ..

Quite a contrast between that and slums in the Philippines......

Or Bogota'

Countries which are near the equator and have year round growing conditions. Colombia has tremendous wealth in gold and emeralds.

You could add Catholic Mexico to that list.. now the church wants the illegal alien Mexicans made legal in America so their pews are filled again with people that are supported and cared for by the government.. so much for the ‘One true catholic church’ doing what was done by that early church..taking care of the widows and children ..that was them right..that is what they say ...

Calvin wrote: "We cannot acknowledge the blessings brought us by Jesus without acknowledging at the same time how highly God honored and enriched Mary in choosing her for the Mother of God". - The Genevan Catechism

You know, it's become apparent we must double-check what these papists write in order to keep them as honest as possible.

Here's the entire Genevan Catechism, written by John Calvin, and NOWHERE do the above words appear.

In fact, the word "Mary" only appears ONE TIME when Calvin is repeating the Apostles Creed -- "our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate..."

Imagine that. What Roman Catholic apologists offer as fact is instead outright fabrication; fiction; phony.

Except for the code word "brethren" he slipped in there. We've been taught by Calvinists on this thread about their meaning of that word and its exclusion of the needy. Before learning about that, I probably wouldn't have noticed what Calvin was really saying.

Yea he had the nerve to say what the inspired word of God says.. isn't that just subversive..

Mar 3:34 — And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!35 — For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

Seems Jesus was excluding quite a number here

You mean like this one?

Taking care of the poor is the work of believers. It isn't something you vote off to the government to do for you. That is NOT fulfilling the believer's responsibility to feed the hungry and clothe the poor.

"Sure makes those dirty infidels want to come rushing to join the Catholic Church, doesn’t it?"

I don't see Catholics rushing to Protestant and blasphemy threads attempting to proselytizing with the most negative of attacks and slander. It is the Protestants who lurk in the Catholic threads like ambush predators attempting to insult the Catholics into enlightenment and whine endlessly, some in all of the colors of the rainbow because Catholics don't agree with their own personal interpretation of Scripture and don't take them seriously.

Sounds a lot like this

To prepare her for her role as the mother of the Savior, Mary “was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role” (Lumen Gentium 56).

You know, I’m beginning to wonder if WE know more about their religion than they know. It could be honest mistakes. Over and over. Or not...

I’m beginning to wonder if WE know more about their religion than they know.

Many ex-RCs say that is the case. They weren't taught Scripture; they learned the catechism by rote so there is little understanding; just repetition.

But there's always the tried-and-true prevaricators' reponse that they simply say what is convenient, regardless of the truth.

My ex-RC husband says he was taught by Jesuits that it is not lying to lie to a theological opponent. It's prudent and wise.

Remember that Machiavelli was a papist and he wrote a book about the fine art of deception.

I sometimes have a hard time keeping the claptrap and theistic fiction sources straight. I think I had it filed under fertilizer. The actual source for this was "comment sur l'harmon." published in Geneva in 1563.

The "fertilizer" is all coming from Rome.

And speaking of fertilizer, "comment sur l'harmon" is not any publication by Calvin.

You'll have to try again to find some attribution, because what you just posted is gibberish.

Googling the phrase we come up with one entry, and it leads nowhere. Obviously this is some internet fever dream of some RC apologist. lol.

There is some flavor of the Chinese proverb that

THE ONLOOKER SEES THE GAME THE BEST.

However, at this point in time,

there’s no excuse for most of the horrific junk they prove about the Vatican edifice day in and day out.

Hideous.

Let us examine your offering.

"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you?" -- 1 Corinthians 3:16

This is not Nicea; the LDS claim as much.

"I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." -- Galatians 2:20

You really are having trouble, aren't you? You cannot quote ANY Pauline verse which describes the Nicene formula of God, can you?

Now if the Holy Spirit and Christ are two separate entities, it must be pretty crowded in those who have been saved.

Empty words. I ask you to post Paul's verses of the Triune God and this is the best that you offer? No wonder you guys are Darwining yourselves out of existence.More likely, as Paul teaches, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ and the Father are three in one.

I will ask you again, Dr. E. Prove it. Post those verses where Paul teaches the Nicene formula of the Trinity. Go ahead. I dare you.

Read the Bible, Mark, and ask God for ears to hear.

I shall pray to God for our opposers that they shall have eyes that are able to read Scripture. When you can, please get back to me with the proofs of the empty rhetoric of the Reformation. If you can...
