ROFL! I agree. ;-D
They are not too personal in the least. I LOVE telling people my testimony of how Christ rescued me from Mormonism.
I am asked these questions so often, that I am currently writing it all down and will post it as a vanity thread hopefully in the next few weeks. Let me know if you would like to be pinged to it.
But to answer your questions (short version) there was a multifacted ‘attack’ on my LDS ‘testimony’. First, it was Christians who loved me enough to challenge me, to tell me the truth, to tell me I wasn’t a Christian, who did the exact things that people have complained about on this thread. They were bold in their witnessing, never backed down, and made me mad enough to try to ‘prove’ them wrong. We argued Bible verses, Book of Mormon, Mormon history, and the reliability (or not) of the Bible.
These Christians really made me mad, so mad I decided to be an LDS apologist. I spent almost a year studying LDS theology, history, teachings and writings. What I found out is they weren’t lying to me, the LDS church was whitewashing and changing its history and doctrines and even their books and scriptures.
Another thing that happened at this time was the changes in the LDS Temple Endowment. Major changes springboarded by accusations of Satanic Ritual abuse. The leadership put enough credibility behind these accusations to change their major secret ceremonies. I was taught that these ceremonies were sacred, unchanging, that they were the same ones basically that God learned when HE was human. Then all of a sudden, major changes. It didn’t make sense.
Also, at about this time, I was taking Biblical Hebrew at BYU. I took the class originally so I knew what Bible verses were not ‘translated correctly’. What I discovered was that the BIBLE was ‘translated correctly’ and thus trustworthy, not corrupt like the LDS teach. THat was another blow.
I went inactive for several months. In the meantime I moved back from Utah to CA and met up again with a childhood friend. He asked me out and for our first date took me to church. I got involved in AWANA (he was a leader and his best friends were the directors and commanders) and that is where I first heard the Gospel of grace preached plainly. I became a Christian a couple of months later.
I will never say I saw ‘on my own’. People hit me over the head with Bible verses but it was God that opened my eyes and I thank Him every single day that He did.
Maranatha, brother.
Yeppers and I got it ... it’s just their superior smug attitude about them being the ‘restored’ church’ .....
It is an honor to be a fool for Christ
INDEED.
“That’s just a plain, slimy, dishonest little accusation that has no basis in anything other than the fact that you can’t look beyond your own personal little battle.”
I second Reaganaut’s claim that we have witnessed a number of mormons who have tried to post on these threads as non-mormons to make themselves look objective. We have also witnessed mormons with more than one screen name.
Her statement is at its core, factual, based on my witness
of history over the past 5 years of participation.

No, and now I want to try it.
Just fried in duck fat? I have a friend who raises ducks.
I’m sure Janet could appreciate someone posting a vanity of their existential angst on an on-line forum.
I disagree with their claim, but I don’t go out daily to do battle with Mormons. Some folks do — but we don’t all have to do so.

Ah, but SVCW and I (and many others I know) DO battle them every single day, on here and elsewhere. That is who God has called me to.
THANKS MUCH.
I tend to live my life all out in front of God and everyone—particularly my brothers and sisters hereon.
You’ll likely get a chew by chew description of corn on the cob. So many things looooook soooooooooooooo appealing. Sigh.
Until I even imagine biting down on them.
CC accused Mormons of lying about their beliefs out of embarrassment. Lying is a far more serious moral failing than ignorance, in my opinion.
Regarding statements of past church leaders, I would point out that Mormons might not draw the same lessons from such statements that you insist they must. Nor are they obligated to do so.
Seeing your later posts I apologize for thinking you might be LDS. I am a bit cyincal since we have had at least 6 freepers who claimed NOT to be Mormon and it turned out that they were. It does happen more often than people would think.
Again I apologize.

WARNING--Quix posts tend to have an abundance of hyperbole, vivid word choices, startling assertions, unusual stylistic tweaks and other things that the smug self-righteous, haughty posting police will likely find abundant grounds for eruptile offense over.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Someone is going to find a way to be offended.
[Quixicated]:
Sooner or later--and usually alarmingly sooner on FR's RF--
LOTS of prissy, brittle, prickly, thin-skinned, folks, perhaps with impacted colons . . . and more than sufficient frothing fingers
WILL DEFINITELY
EAGERLY SEARCH for a list of things to be offended by
. . . usually with GREAT INDIGNATION, wrapped very tightly in robes of self-righteousness
and usually castigating all the OUT-GROUP OFFENSIVE FOLKS into outer darkness--or at least--to stay beyond the pale and out of THEIR precious HOLIEST OF HOLIES IN-GROUP.
Where's the puke bucket.
Then why did He ask if it offended them? Why did some of his disciples walk away... Jesus was very offensive to the traditionalists ..that is why they hung him
ABSOLUTELY INDEED.
THX.
Well, of course, if “the other guys” would just straighten up everything would be o.k.! Plain as the nose on your fist.
Thank you so much for sharing your testimony! You have a gift of exhortation, both in your testimony and your posts. I’m certain that those who shared scripture with you weren’t Lukewarm, or “quietors”! Coming from darkness into light is the most beautiful experience and one that is available to anyone who is searching. I would like very much to be added to your *ping* list. I love to see the moment that someone “gets it”, the light goes on, and nothing is the same ever again! Maranatha!
Good points.
That would be a valid point if as a former lds this is what they were taught to do.
Regarding statements of past church leaders, I would point out that Mormons might not draw the same lessons from such statements that you insist they must.
Not sure exactly what you mean by this. What lessons? The leaders said what they said, taught what they taught. It has been pointed out numerous times that that the prophet says is the final word.
Now when you say past, I am not sure how far you wish to dismiss (if that is your intent) but here are some not so in the past statements.
If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith] - (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)
God is not at its head, making that church [i.e., Christianity] following the appearance in it of Satan no longer the church of God. To say that Satan sits in the place of God in Christianity after the time of the apostles is not to say that all that is in it is Satanic. - Kent P. Jackson, Early Signs of Apostasy, Ensign, December 1984, p. 9
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I’m assuming
you’re NOT assuming
there was only one possible reason for that!
