This topic is so difficult for me.

It seems to require an antecedent act of faith in ET's on the one hand and accompanying acts of incredulity on the other.

I am inclined to believe that what happened at Fatima is what we say happened. If I stand back from it as though I had no dog in the fight, I still wonder how the healing miracles could have happened. If by the prince of demons we cast out demons, by whom do the ET's cast them out?

That's not meant to say that "your side" is demonic. It's to say that one has to start by saying the Catholics (or most of 'em) are wrong and dishonest and the other side is reliable.

But then as evidence we have a painting, presented in a fuzzy way and cited as evidence of flying saucers. But a closer look at the painting reveals an interesting attempt at a portrayal of the infinite in the finite, of the Spirit of God descending like a dove with a huge aureole around it.

TO those who came into the game thinking it's evidence of flying saucers, the dove is discounted. To those who come into the game with an awareness of traditional iconography and of the development of art in the Renaissance, it's an instance of that development, nothing more.

We all know that it's easy to muster evidence for any conspiracy theory, for almost any conjecture. And it's even easier if the evidence is presented in a blurry way, with the pesky details reduced to a white blob. But a pile of conjectures added to a few pieces of ambiguous evidence is not a proof.

Look: If there is a 50% probability that A is true, and the same probability for B, C, and D, then:
- There is a 25% probability that A AND B are true;
- a 12.5% probability that A, B, and C are true; and
- a .0625 probability that A, B, C, and D are true.

Then there is the question of what in my life would I change if some of this were true. I am going to die in any event, unless the end comes soon. I am tried every day. In response I have recourse to God as often as I can. What should I change if a flying saucer appears in the sky?

That's about as far as I can take it right now. I hope this is at least clear.

Pretty clear, I think.

I’m reasonably happy to have a thoughtful reasoned response that at all fair-mindedly considers the evidence.

Holy Spirit is on the hook for the rest.

And, I enjoy the dialogue regardless of the perspective of those fair-mindedly and earnestly entering the dialogue from whatever notions they may carry at the outset.

What to change?

The main thing, I think, is to avoid any support, any compliance with, any being snookered by

ANYONE OR ANYTHING

that preaches any other gospel or construction on reality other than that which Christ Himself taught.

In other words, I should listen to what you say Christ says.

No thanks.

THAT’S

NOT

what I said.

More RC revisionism at work, as usual.

Sigh.

The original article came from Zenit.com
Stright from the Vatican news.

That is my source.
Might help you to understand your misunderstandings as well as others if you read from the actual RC media many of us Catholics read from.

The Wanderer is another good source.
Daily Q and Answers is an excellant source for those who misunderstand the Catholic faith.

THEN I’d think you’d be able to provide the link

to your ultra kosher RC sources demonstrating that what I posted was hogwash.

No need to.
If you want to “research” stuff fine.

It is not in my work/time schedule to do that for you.

Zenit.org is the Worldwide Catholic source from Rome.

The article I received via private e mail (I read em and delete em) was also posted here at FR.

The typical sort of RC response to that kind of reply would be to claim that there is absolutely no support of any quality or degree etc. etc. etc.

I don’t feel that way . . . However, it is kind of ironic.

Why cant you answer a simple question?

I asked you why I should listen to your well-founded opinions as opposed to other protestants who seem to understand the law of non-contradiction any better than you do?

I’d rather listen to a fourth century Pagan, frankly.

For the umteenth time.

Debating my faith on an internet forum is not my calling.

I am an around the clock medical careprovider for my son. That is what God called me to do.

KV and I are both Catholic.

I come to FR for pleasure/relaxation/humor and KV reads here for Politics.

Our life for Christ is not only at home but despite his severe disability he is able to be in the community on a regualar basis for events also.
That is why I work so physically hard to give him an active life.

I do not debate (rarely) on the internet as God has a huge job in real life time for KV and I.

Quix you pinged me to this thread.

The time I spend here is in between care shifts for KV, IOW I am right by his side on call 24/7, not for the convienance or to debate my faith on the internet.

I have no need to debate what is in my heart/mind/soul.

I am content.

If other Catholics want to do the 5,000 posts of cat tail chasing, and I have read good clear apologetics here but you and your non RC buddies seem to ignore/misinform and continue this cat chasing tail game.

It is a waste of time/energy IMHO I have a job to do in “REAL LIFE” time.

So don’t ping me if you don’t want me to post my relax/smart alec/sarcasm here it is all your going to get, ok KV needs his trach suctioned so as an on call careprovider I am going to do my job. Tootle Loo.

BY ALL MEANS,

POST YOUR

smart alec/sarcasm

here, if that’s all you care to bother with.

I realize it was my slight fantasy that you might provide something of substance that I could reflect on and learn something from. However, I certainly didn’t bet the farm on it.

It is kind of fascinating that so many RC’s seem to run around loose hereon with

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH

intense bitterness, resentment—evidently even hate—towards at least Dr E and I, if not most Proddys hereon, that they can’t seem to manage a civil discourse of any meaningfulness even when seriously invited.

Very fascinating, indeed.

Cheers for your efforts with KV.

I still pray for you two as Holy Spirit brings you to mind for such.

IIRC, when they were building it, I think I read some speculation that they were focusing on the ET thing and some mystified curiosities as to what on earth was the Vatican establishing such a fairly modern facility of such a nature for in the first place.
