You mean like Baptists who think that drinking alcoholic beverages is always and everywhere sinful, although the Bible nowhere says any such thing? That kind of "rule" that "He never imposed on us"?
I'm not Baptist but as for drinking....there are many scriptures opposing drunkenness:
“Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise” Prv. 20:1
‘Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixes wine......” Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine confusing things.....” Prv.23:29-33
“Do not join with those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor and drowsiness clothes them like rags.” Prv.23:20,21
It does appear moderation is key, however one prone to drinking too much.... if is not of faith it is sin for them. Mel Gibson comes to mind and those like him. There loses increase over time.
Their replies consist of disjointed bible quotes which are usually irrelevant to the topic being discussed but that is their only recourse when confronted with evidence which contradicts their indefensible positions.Post #7 on this thread is a prime example of this failing .
When threads are presented concerning conversions to Catholicism, as the S. Baptist M,D. last Monday, the powerful testimony given by this educated person upends their comfort zone and they reply with inane commentary. In perusing their comments on that thread I would venture most of the critics did not even watch the program but made comments anyway.
These souls are to be pitied and prayed for God has not given them much and so little can be expected.
