The Catholic Church wanted unmarried men back in the early days becuse they came from the wealthy class i.e. literate and they wanted their money when they died. Simple as that. It was a money issue to the church from Day 1. Do you seriously think God thinks lesser of a pastor who is married..who may have actually done more to spread the word of God during his life than say a particular priest?? This silly old fashioned arcane(sic) view of celibacy is what is driving away people from the church in droves.

I guess you reject what Jesus says then. Secondly, you are totally missing the point. Why would you get rid of a great charism that is for the building up of the Church? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Thirldy, why doesn't your friend become a permanent deacon?

This is what you want to believe. What is driving people away from the Church is the liberalism of the Church that you are embracing.

Oh you mean like the liberalism that teaching the Earth is NOT the center of the universe? That would get you burnt at the stake at one time in Rome. We are not talking about morals here like changing the view on murder but something as silly as allowing priest to be married or not.

I guess you reject what Jesus says then.

Show me the voice recording or actual words written by Jesus himself where he says priest need to be celibate. It was a man man creation written by infallible men who have interpreted their own meaning of it through the centuries.

You never answered my question. Is a pastor who has done great things spreading the word of God his whole life looked upon any less by God?? My friend always wanted to be a priest not a deacon but he fell in love with his HS sweetheart 30 years ago.

GCC Catholic. You said priest by being celibate are available 365/24/7. When my Catholic Mom was dying in the hospital my Dad's Methodist minister showed up to comfort him. They work more than a 9-5 job also.

My church is a "training" church. They bring in priest right out of the seminary for 6 month to a year and then they do onto a permanent position elsewhere. Yes, there are fine young priest and I am sure you are one of them. However, The last 3 out of 4 we have had we terrible. As long as you limit available candidates you are going to get a lesser candidates as a whole.
