This is his first year of public school. I think we're going back to homeschooling. It's been a nightmare.

USED TO. they had common sense not to shoot others with them back then. Teachers USED to be able to kick their ass if they goofed off too, but now they don’t. Parents USED TO not sue the school over every little thing either.

Why would you want your kid to wear a huge cross and carry an open bible around school? as a stunt? Being openly religious doesn’t prove your worth to God.

I can say, the last time a student brandished a similar piece and told me, "It's part of my religion," I promptly confiscated the object and advised the youngster he was welcome to pick it up after class to take it to his religious service of choice. [I am a sometime sub, otherwise, providing I had my way (and a non-pansy principal), he and his parents would have picked up the object after school]
The person who was interviewed on the news cast I watched said something to the effect that "you could cause the same harm with a fork or a pencil."
Well, sure, who hasn't been stabbed by a student with a pencil? (The last time that happened to me, the student actually drew blood. Mercifully, I had a non-pansy for a principal. The little darlin' was promptly expelled and the police were summoned to school as well. I really do miss that principal)
A public school is not to be confused with a place of worship. Any object of religious significance (along with MP3 players and other electronic devices) that creates a learning disruption should be stored in the student's locker.
Or at least, put somewhere that I can't see it.
Interestingly, whenever I see a woman wearing an Islamic veil the men and boys in her group are always in normal American clothes. I would guess that there is little if any specific dress proscribed for Muslim men, so the chances are that a man in foreign garb is probably not a Muslim.
