Koran Burnt in Florida Church

GAINESVILLE, Florida (AFP) – A controversial US evangelical preacher oversaw the burning of a copy of the Koran in a small Florida church after finding the Muslim holy book "guilty" of crimes.

The burning was carried out by pastor Wayne Sapp under the supervision of Terry Jones, who last September drew sweeping condemnation over his plan to ignite a pile of Korans on the anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks.

Sunday's event was presented as a trial of the book in which the Koran was found "guilty" and "executed."

The jury deliberated for about eight minutes. The book, which had been soaking for an hour in kerosene, was put in a metal tray in the center of the church, and Sapp started the fire with a barbecue lighter.

The book burned for around 10 minutes while some onlookers posed for photos.

Jones had drawn trenchant condemnation from many people, including US President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, over his plan to burn the Muslim holy book in September.

He did not carry out his plan then and vowed he never would, saying he had made his point.

If you Google “Muslims Burn Bibles”, you'll find more than 1.1 million hits on the subject. So, why would they get all bent out of shape if we return the favor?

After all look what Obama did the last time someone burnt a Koran, he sicked his SS on them!

I think that person simply threatened to burn one.

We should all be holding rallies in the town square where we burn Korans.

Ash Friday? Hmmm. New holy day? I didn’t get that memo.

My apologies. I'll only ridicule mock churches with official holy days from now on.

Good! Great news. We should be burning the Koran all over the country. Show the filthy Muslims who this country really belongs to - it isn’t them.

So, a private citizen burned his personal property.

He could have burned a bible, a dictionary, an encyclopedia, or a signed first edition printing of ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’; as long as it was his property, he can do what he wants with it.

If you threaten to burn one, you might as well burn it, because in the minds of the Islamo-Fanatics, it doesn't make a difference, just threatening to burn one is enough to send them off the deep end.

“Koran Burnt in Florida Church”

This needs to be done in every church in the Western World.

Perhaps every Christian church EVERYwhere (and in Jewish synagogues, too).

Yes, I know. Christianity is supposed to be a _peaceful_ religion, vis-a-vis Islam, which is barbaric in nature, right?

The primary reason why Islam is “ascendant” and Christianity and Judaism are in decline is that Islam is willing to “fight for its future”, and the Western religions are not.

Until the Western religions find [again] within themselves the fighting spirit to put down Islam, they face doom and Islam faces victory.

I wish I could be more optimistic about this.
But I’m a cold-hearted realist at my core.

And that’s how I see it.

Kudos to pastor Wayne Sapp.

At least there’s someone left who sees what must be done.

This is stupid. Not because of any PC reasons, but because of....well, what does an act like this really accomplish?

True ‘nuf - may as well get some use out of the thing. That's why I heartily approve of koranic toilet paper.

It is an act of defiance.

Hey that looks like the koran I have! Bought it off an individual on Amazon. He sent me all kinds of material on converting. Didn’t have the heart to tell him wasn’t gonna happen.

Awww, poor dude. Better that you didn't tell him or he might ride his bike into an old folks' home with some firecrackers tied to the handlebars, or blow up a telephone booth or something.

What a lot of people do not understand is their reverence for the colour green - they live in parched lands and the colour green is of lush vegetation. There are actually a cadre of yoyos here who think that any green book is a Koran, completely dismissing green cover Arabic language Bibles such as this one from Amazon.com:

and Biblesource.com sells a Hebrew language Bible with a green cover and so on.

By the way, did you take the pig's head option on your purchase? :)

This is a true story:

A few years ago, my son spent two summers in Sudan helping coach their olympic and junior olympic volleyball teams. While there, he met a young woman who had recently converted from Islam to Christianity - a serious offense for any Muslim.

Because of the offense, her family put all of her belongings from the house out in the yard and set fire to it. It all burned, except for one thing - her Christian Bible - it didn’t even get scorched. Upon seeing that, her entire family converted to Christianity.

It doesn’t sound like the power behind the Koran that was burned in Florida is quite as powerful as that behind the Bible that didn’t burn in Sudan.
