Jehovah's Witnesses face gunfire at 'Catholic home' in Monroe County, authorities say
Lehigh Valley Live ^ | May 1, 2011 | Rudy Miller

Rhonda Kalapach believes Jehovah's Witnesses have no place on her property.

When two of them came to her door, the 60-year-old Monroe County woman asked them to leave. Her husband saw the women from across the street and yelled at them, but they didn’t go.

That’s when her husband, William George Kalapach, came into the home and got his rifle. The women were walking to the car where three other people were waiting, when Kalapach said they weren’t moving fast enough, police said.

Police said he fired four shots into the ground about 11 a.m. Saturday near the car with all five people inside. He is now in county prison, charged with aggravated assault and related charges.

"This is a Catholic home," Rhonda Kalapach said. "This is a devout home."
She said the evangelists ignored repeated demands from her and her husband to leave, forcing her husband to react the way he did.

They were at her door about five to 10 minutes before shots rang out, Rhonda Kalapach said.
"I kept telling them this was a Catholic home," she said. "They were trying to convert me."
She said Jehovah’s Witnesses come to her door about three to four times a year. They visited last winter, she said. Every time they’re told to leave. She said her husband did what he had to do to defend their home, she said.
"He doesn’t think he did anything wrong," she said. "This is private property. If you drive in my driveway, you’re trespassing."
'Pretty upset'

She doesn’t know how she’ll pay for bail or a lawyer for her husband. She said he’s a former truck driver who was forced to retire due to poor health. She said he has cancer, diabetes and recently suffered a massive heart attack.

She said she’s on Social Security. They have no family, she said.
"I've never had this kind of trouble before," she said. "I haven’t gotten a raise in over two years."
On top of that, his mother died last week.
"We just buried his 96-year-old mother on Wednesday," she said. "Things are pretty upset around here."
Rhonda Kalapach said police took photographs of the bullets in her yard.

Police said a 53-year-old and 18-year-old woman came to the door, and then left with 38-year-old and 20-year-old women and a 16-year-old boy in the car. She said the shots were "50, 60 feet away" from the women.
"He wouldn’t have been shooting at them," she said.
State police at the Swiftwater barracks would not comment beyond what was in a news release. William Kalapach is charged with a single count of aggravated assault, five counts of making terroristic threats and five counts of recklessly endangering another person. Police seized the rifle.

Warnings

Rhonda Kalapach said she has four neighbors on her street in the 400 block of Schoolhouse Road. None of them want visits from Jehovah’s Witnesses, she said.
"These people never take no for an answer. They keep going on and they want you to read their papers," she said. "Up here, anywhere around here … when you don’t leave you get a warning shot. Just get the (expletive) out of here."
The neighbors call each other, she said, with a warning not to open the door if the Jehovah’s Witnesses are spotted.

But this time Rhonda Kalapach didn’t ignore the knocking.
"I didn’t recognize the car," she said. "I should have never opened the door."

This thread doesn’t belong in the RF. It belongs in News, in the Bang forum or Chat. This is just another Catholic bashing effort by the usual suspect(s).

I'm all for gun ownership, property rights, and "Make My Day" laws, but I have to agree with you.

Years ago on a lovely summer Saturday morning my brother was outside washing his truck in front of our old Wasilla home. I had just stepped out of the shower when I heard the vehicle drive in.

It was a station wagon full of female JW’s. Two of them stepped out and accosted my brother.

Not wanting to miss such a perfect opportunity I stepped out onto the front porch drying my hair buck naked.

“Hey Pete, who’re your new friends?”

Their car spit gravel all the way up the driveway...

“This is my rifle, this is my gun...” Mr. Kalapach should have remembered that.

Good for them on this one. I always ask the JWs inside — telling them I will listen to them if they will listen to Catholic truth.

They leave and have never returned!!

Obviously it was an extreme over-reaction, but- if you’re an unwelcome intruder at another persons home, and you’ve been asked to leave for 5 to 10 minutes and are refusing to do so, you are really asking for something bad to happen to you.

Had 2 JW (man and woman) come by the house last week, told them not interested and they left immediately.
This happens once or twice a year and never any trouble with them after not interested.

I’ve thought of teaching them calculus. Do you think that would work?

You might as well say it is a gun owner bashing effort. Or a hillbilly bashing effort.

In short I think you are being oversensitive. Every time a Roman Catholic does something that is perceived of as wrong, and it gets posted on FR, does not mean Roman Catholics are being bashed.

Today I commented on a thread about the embarrassing Archbishop, or some such title, in England endorsing the fact that Kate and Will lived together before marriage. His statements were repulsive and anti-Christian. And he is a big leader of the “church” of England.

And I am a Protestant. You might think I would have objected to “just another Protestant bashing thread.” However, I can admit it when a Protestant does wrong, and I don’t think they are above criticism. I actually joined in the criticism.

All you need to do is take out your ouija board and tell them you will listen to what they have to say if the spirits tell you it is Ok.

Although I would never be a JW I respect every person’s heartfelt belief that supports mankind. When they come to my home I offer them a chair, a cup of tea, a prayer and I tell them why I could never be a JW. It is pleasant and short. I respect their comittment to their beliefs.

Jesus asks us to love one another. I try my best not to disappoint him.

Back in the early 70s I was working a night shift. People kept pounding on the door and waking me up to the point I put a large printed sign on the door. It plainly explained that I worked nights and did not want to be disturbed except in an emergency.

2 Jehovah's Witness women actually pounded on the sign until I woke up. I could see them from a window, tried to ignore them, they kept pounding.

After I got out of bed and answered the door naked they never came back!

You can't be polite with them, they put you on a list of possibles and keep coming back.

Pounding on that large, clearly printed sign showed a total lack of respect, no way will I be nice to people like that.

The subject held up for our criticism and ridicule has cancer and diabetes,he’s recovering from a massive heart attack, AND his mother just died.

A perfect guy to pick on. It’s so noble, so exemplary of the highest ideals of Christian charity to kick a guy when he’s down. I look forward to articles on lapses by bereft Catholic parents.

I am edified. Everything I needed to know about Protestant “apologetics” I learned from this post.

It is if I tell you to leave and you don't.
