One of the most significant ongoing tributes to the Prophet Joseph Smith is the annual Joseph Smith Memorial Firesides...These...began in 1944 and have been held each year since, as close as possible to December 23, Joseph Smith’s birthday...Brother Chase...published a ...volume titled Joseph the Prophet, As He Lives in the Hearts of His People.

...William E. Berrett...“It is an appropriate thing to remember the birthday of...Joseph...This is the birthday of our greatest countryman. Joseph Smith is the only American whose birthday is heralded around the world...People of every land and of every race are coming to honor the birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith...”

SNIP

“The Lord had shepherded the unveiling of this work,” stated Elder David B. Haight...

Many...Smith memorial speakers emphasized the need for all those present to obtain this personal witness of Joseph Smith...."Joseph Smith lies at the heart of it all..."

...“at least 3,400 verses...contain alterations by him...”

Of the plan of salvation, Jeffrey R. Holland said, "...If you took away what the Prophet Joseph has contributed to that we wouldn’t know a lot.”...No other Christian religion teaches anything about premortal existence or the general plan of salvation...

...“One other idea that was revolutionary and is still revolutionary is to take away the idea of the limitation that one supposes exists for man...He replaced it...there is no limit to how high man might go...he could go beyond any limit...”

Elder Benson noted, “The greatest activity in this world or in the world to come is directly related to the work and mission of Joseph Smith..."

...This being the case, appropriately we sing, “Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!...Praise to his memory...Honored and blest be his ever great name!” For the time is not far distant when “millions shall know Brother Joseph again...”

So, instead of focusing on Jesus Christ's birthday the third week of December. In Mormonism, Smith's "birthday is heralded around the world..." and "People of every land and of every race are coming to honor the birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith...”

My. That's interesting.

From the article: “The Lord had shepherded the unveiling of this work,” stated Elder David B. Haight...

Why. In this Joseph Smith, "the Lord" plays the role of the "shepherd" pointing to Joseph Smith.

My, my. Rather interesting role reversal going on, here.

Why, that's "funny!" I would have thought from reading my Bible that Jesus Christ is the one who "lives in the hearts" of God's people...

...And that Jesus Christ "lies at the heart of it all"...

...And that Jesus Christ is the ONE for whom we are to "obtain" a "personal witness" to...

...And that Jesus Christ's "work and mission" is to be the True Source of "the greatest activity in this world or the world to come..."

I guess I was wrong. The Mormons say it's to be Joseph Smith!

From the article: ...This being the case, appropriately we sing, “Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!...Praise to his memory...Honored and blest be his ever great name!” For the time is not far distant when “millions shall know Brother Joseph again...”

You might think the Mormon hymn in the Mormon hymnal, "Praise to the Man" is about Jesus Christ. But you would be wrong. It's praising Joseph Smith! Praising the memory of Joseph Smith. Honoring and blessing Joseph Smith. And in the hymn, is the "key" to know Jesus Christ.

No.

Wrong again.

..."the time is not far distant when 'millions lshall know Brother Joseph again...'"

Oh...and the other tidbits excerpted in the article:

(1) ...“at least 3,400 verses...contain alterations by him...”

A confession here of Joseph Smith's hatchet-job handiwork upon the Bible.

(2) "Of the plan of salvation, Jeffrey R. Holland said, '...If you took away what the Prophet Joseph has contributed to that we wouldn’t know a lot.'...No other Christian religion teaches anything about premortal existence or the general plan of salvation..."

A HUGE confession here from an "apostle" and one of the top three hierarchists in Mormon leadership that it's not Jesus Christ speaking through the Bible OR the Bible itself that informs Mormonism. Nope. Take "away what...Joseph has contributed to" [salvation] and Mormons "wouldn't know a lot..."

(3) ...“One other idea that was revolutionary and is still revolutionary is to take away the idea of the limitation that one supposes exists for man...He replaced it...there is no limit to how high man might go...he could go beyond any limit...”

So. No limits for mankind. Godhood is the common ultimate Mormon goal.

Actually, not everything he did was cut.

For example, the real God somehow forgot to prophesy Joseph the prophet. You would know better than me, but it is my understanding that Smith fixed that glaring omission in the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible.

In the only Revelation from God, the Bible, we find in Revelation 22: 18-19, this final warning: “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

God revealed to the prophet that he could have 24 wives, one of them 14 years old.

Handy to be the prophet of your own religion.

Yep.
He is a temple mormon which means is as worthy as it gets in the inner circles of mormonISM. Only about 15% of the entire membership makes it to temple worthy.

Some lds member on FR told me that this verse refers to Smith.
KJB Ezekiel 36:16
Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions.

Will Mitt be ruling as a god (small “g”) on another planet when he dies? Or is that saved for the 12 men who rule the Mormon Church...and call themselves “apostles”? (I don’t know if they capitalize the “a” or not.)

He’ll get to be a god on his own planet. Every man who is temple worthy and followed every rule will be a god. That is my understanding.

Yeah. That one is a well known misinterpretation of scripture.

But as I recall, Smith injected some fair clear new verses into his "revelations" to clear up all doubt.

- - - - -
Actually the number is much higher, 34 at a minumum with some counts closer to 42. Also 2 of them were 14 at the time.

And yeah it was handy. LOL.
