The 'world' might be getting better but spiritually speaking (at least in regard to those who have the ability to visit vast and sudden destruction on others at the press of a button)it is in dire straights.

At any rate, preterism has been discredited and proven to be false so many times the fact that we are still giving it any credence and discussing it as if it has any shred of truth shows that there are many people who fear that the Bible is actually true and that God may mean what He says and will carry out what He says He will do.

Sure -- you could have said that in the years 300 - 430 AD in the Western Empire and indeed in the Eastern Empire until 680. But BereanBrain's statement was "Last time I checked, the world is NOT getting better" -- and that is incorrect -- people are eating better, living longer, living lives out of poverty and illiteracy and, EVEN spiritually speaking -- stop looking at it from the US-centric point of view and see how the Gospel is spreading in Africa and Asia.
Hardly -- which countries have that ability? the US, UK, France, Russia, India, Pakistan, China and Israel --> totally about 3.5 billion people. Out of that, for 2.5 billion people (India and China), the Gospel is spreading, so no, it's not in dire straits

I pointed out how spiritually and materially the vast majority of people in the world are having their lot improved, not decayed. Peace and safety are nice, but not the most important stuff to have for spiritual growth
