60 Minutes does a hatchet job on the Roman Catholic Church

An Irishman named Diarmuid Martin says the Catholic Church in Ireland has reached a breaking point, a crisis that he says results from the sexual abuse of children by priests and the cover-up by the Church. Martin has provided tens of thousands of pages of evidence against specific priests, and his words and actions carry extraordinary weight. That's because Diarmuid Martin is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin. Bob Simon reports.

Anyone else raise their eyebrows at the timing, and ferocity, of tonight's 60 Minutes expose of Irish priest sexual misconduct?

Is this payback for the Roman Catholic opposition to the Obama birth control mandates?

Curiouser and Curiouser.

Stand up to Obama, the self-declared God-King, and get crushed. The time for decision is approaching fast for people who love freedom.

I recall taking the time to watch a live interview by Dan Rather of soon to be Bush 41 in 1988. Bush walked out. I enjoyed that.

Anyway, that was almost the last time I watched anything on SeeBS.

THE last time was in 2001 as I waited for Rather to tell his audience that Rep Gary Condit was a Democrat.

Maybe 60 Minutes has had some good shows these past 25 years. I wouldn't know.

Does it show a lack of faith to be politically active, on my knees praying for this county, and well holstered?

Diarmuid Martin is a raving liberal and now he’s trying to shift the blame. He was a Vatican bureaucrat who was consecrated bishop of a titular see in 1999, and then made coadjutor of Dublin and finally archbishop in 2004, under JPII.

He clearly does not like this current Pope, who has actually replaced a large number of the Irish episcopate. Unfortunately, I think Martin has got a number of years before his retirement.

Why do people watch that show? Their target audience buys Metamucil, Centrum Silver and Polident Dentu-Grip.

Haven’t watched 60 minutes in years, but it is no surprise that they come to Obama’s rescue and help him attack the Catholic Faith.

Yes we are under attack.

All of Christianity is under attack, the others just haven’t realized it yet.

Shocking. A liberal show spouts liberal viewpoint.

Shocking. Why watch it?

I had the same reaction. Curious timing. Plus it’s about the 10th time 60 Minutes has hit the same story of priest sex abuse. A decade on, the media definitely sees more mileage to be gained from this story.

Yes, saw the previews, thought the same thing and shut it off. They are throwing everything at us to fractre the church. The Church can not back down no matter what they say. The people are the church, and Catholics had better choose the side of the church now! If not, he wins. Good-Evil. Simple as that.

Even non-catholics like me can see right through this sort of nonsense. It's politically acceptable to pick on:

- Christians

- Traditional sex roles and a patriarchal society

- Capitalism

- American exceptionalism

- Our founding fathers

- The role of US military might past and present

Organizations like 60 Minutes deal in feelings and cliche. They seldom really talk about anything new, and are in the business of regurgitating trash that has some appeal to a niche audience, liberal old people. They would never run a story with the some sort of spin regards:

- Homosexuality

- Muslims

- The failure of all socialized systems and structures in America

- The abuse of power, cost and even damage caused to people by green, regenerative, sustainable, organic, holistic, recyclable, biodegradable and other scams

- The cost of divorce and poor financial planning by a baby boomer generation

They know where their bread is buttered, that simple. News isn't to get informed, it's there to reaffirm ones preconceived beliefs and value system.

Can someone help me understand the liberal viewpoint on something?

The liberals are shocked, as all of us are, about child abuse by priests.

The liberals love to use this issue to denigrate the Church.

However, according to studies I have seen, a majority of these “child abuse” cases are cases in which priests abused boys and young men. Meaning that these priests committed or induced homosexual acts.

Now, we know that under politically correct ideology, homosexuality is special and celebrated. However, the MSM and liberals rarely indicate that the majority of these cases are men (priests) committing abuse against children and adolescents of the same sex.

Long story short, why is the liberal view to talk about the priest sex scandals as cases of child abuse in general terms, when so many are man/boy abuse? Are the liberals not shocked about man/boy abuse, or are they trying to protect the gay community from people jumping to conclusions that too many gay men are predatory?

I know this might seem like I’m inciting something here, but I really honestly want to know how liberals look at this. The liberals celebrate the gay community, but do not want to acknowledge that many of these priests are gay. Yet they do celebrate openly gay clergymen such as Eugene Robinson of the Episcopal Church.

the last time I watched anything on SeeBS.

Actually CBS is the best network on TV. NCIS, NCIS LA, CSI’s, Blue Bloods, Survivor, The Amazing Race, POI, and so many more. I just don’t watch their news organizations. Very easy to do.

A thing you might enjoy.

Our priest asked us to pray today for the state of the nation (the UK, but it applies). On our feet, as men and women of pride, not on our knees as suplicants. As he said “We ask God in all humility, but we demand for our country in all righteousness.”

Guess the bishop might have some words about that, but it made me proud.

Keep praying, working and keep the faith!

American "others" have always known it, that is why they always vote Republican, even in now blue California.

What is curious is the attack the messenger mentality. It was the offending priests and their enablers that produced the crisis. And the victims had a hatchet job (and worse) done on them too....by the very people who were charged with protecting them.

The Roman Catholic Church can claim no moral superiority here.
