Thank you for explaining that reference, Mark. I appreciate it very much and had no clue, myself. This is an important detail to the message.

Sometimes, do you think the Church can be too subtle for its own good? Hopefully, and as you indicated, I pray fervently that the graduates were more informed than I, and didn’t miss the point to which you allude and make clear.

You know, that is the question I ask myself as I read the gospels. Why did Jesus speak in so many parables? Why didn't He just speak as plainly as Cardinal Dolan in this commencement address? Then I realize that He was attempting to speak to the people of that time in ways that they could best understand and that not all of what Jesus said was recorded in the gospels or the Acts. But God love Cardinal Dolan and may He give him long life to carry the Word forward in our time.
