Recently, a group called the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) ran a full-page ad in The Washington Post cast as an “open letter to ‘liberal’ and ‘nominal’ Catholics.” Its headline commanded: “It’s Time to Quit the Catholic Church.”
The ad included the usual criticism of Catholicism, but I was most struck by this paragraph: “If you think you can change the church from within — get it to lighten up on birth control, gay rights, marriage equality, embryonic stem-cell research — you’re deluding yourself. By remaining a ‘good Catholic,’ you are doing ‘bad’ to women’s rights. You are an enabler. And it’s got to stop.”
My, my. Putting aside the groups love for unnecessary quotation marks, it was shocking to learn that Im an enabler doing bad to womens rights. But Catholic liberals get used to these kinds of things. Secularists, who never liked Catholicism in the first place, want us to leave the church, but so do Catholic conservatives who want the church all to themselves.
Im sorry to inform the FFRF that I am declining its invitation to quit. It may not see the Gospel as a liberating document, but I do, and I cant ignore the good done in the name of Christ by the sisters, priests, brothers and lay people who have devoted their lives to the poor and the marginalized.
And on womens rights, I take as my guide that early feminist Pope John XXIII. In Pacem in Terris, his encyclical issued in 1963, the same year Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique, Pope John spoke of womens natural dignity.

These folks are CINOs. Perhaps not even that.
If they wish to leave, that’s jake with me.

I can only imagine if they ran an ad pleading the Muslims to abandon their religion.
I guess I can keep imagining.
Most liberals in the Catholic Church or other Christian churches that preach the Gospel have left it already though they are present. They are the tares that grow along with the wheat.
And that is how it's supposed to be. ANY Christian church (I'm not Catholic, but I do respect those who are), is a church abiding by the laws passed down from God. Those laws are abolute, those laws have not been withdrawn and those laws are not up for debate. If you don't like those laws, then perhaps there is another church that you may find more "accepting" of your beliefs. But, no one has a "right" to demand that ANY church change it's core beliefs.
We're in the End Times folks. The signs are there.
The Freedom From Religion people are pushing the destruction of the Church.
EJ Dionne is pushing for a counterfeit church which teaches bad for good.
It's a tag team effort. As long as Good loses, these folks will count it a victory.
This is not only a problem with the Catholic church, but with Protestant churches as well. Few seem willing to enforce discipline over it influential members, weakening the message of the church by allowing all sorts of sin and heresy to creep in.

Even as a liberal, you have to give him credit for pointing this out. Most secularist and liberal Christians will not acknowledge this fact from history.
Why would I want to?
Looks similar to the one they ran in the New York Slimes in February.
There’s a name for Catholics like Pelosi and EJ: Episcopalians.
Not sure if you knew this, but the NY Times ran an ad like this against Catholics a few months ago. Someone did a mock up (same format, similar imagery) calling for Muslims to abandon Islam. The NY Times refused to run the ad.
We tried about 30 years of silence from the pulpit EJ, and things only got worse.
It's time to be silent no more and speak out about “right” and “wrong”! There is a difference and your commitment to shades of gray, is helping nobody.
You can keep your “social justice” mantra to yourself, as it's only purpose is to supplant self-reliance with government dependence and a growing voting block.
"Lighten up"? LOL, you mean "accept."
"Embryonic stem-cell research"? LOL, you mean "abortions."
Being a liar is one thing. Being a coward is another. But being a cowardly liar seeking to confuse women about what you're really up to is... Hillary. Why, only three-named women try things like that. And say, look here, one of the authors names is "Annie laurie Gaylor."
I think the other author is a guy, but I couldn't read it through his fuzzy sweater.
I think it's more of a problem than you realize - it's deliberate. It's the way that has been decided upon to destroy churches, ALL of them. Infiltrate the hierarchy, and then allow endless invasions without resistence until the church dissolves. It's the RINO approach to religion, and it used to be called "sabotage."
.
Social justice =Statolitry
LOL!
Our new Catholic Priest, is a former Episcopal Minister, married with 6 kids.
Same is true in Mom’s parish in WA.
