My Ibizans and Portuguese Podengo sniff the black snake’s trail beside the house with “hunting tails” going all the time and they’ve shown no interest in anything inside the house at all.

[maybe I could rent a muzzled Mongoose]

I only got to the thread today & read all the way through in hopes Mommy and Alice (bad boy!) had been reunited by now. Alas...

I was going to suggest something along the lines of a trained scent hound because it’s obvious my dogs can smell where my resident black snake has recently been. Silly black lab actually flops & rolls in the spot, or did it defecate there too? Been out there for years. I love the fellow/gal because it occupies a niche where otherwise a copperhead might take up residence. I do not need a copper taking refuge in my basement!

Um, along with turning furniture inside out and dispatching (!) hubby to explore the attic - I like the idea of a flyer with his pic and a reward distributed to neighbors and local vets/herpitologists. Hillbilly shovel hands might be stayed by the thought of landing a cash prize in place of a useless ole dead snake, no?

Another idea - this feels kinda weird, but you never know until you ask - how do BPs find mates out in the wild? Some kind of scent perhaps collected by herp researchers? From what you wrote, Sal, he might not know what to do with a date if he had one *nervous giggle* yet I bet he’d still find a girlie snake’s pheromones irresistable...

I sure hope you find the little rascal safe and sound! I can’t imagine cuddling a non-fluffy critter myself, but your posts and others about beloved non-furry pets make for a great read. Pretty thing, dunno how that coloring can be called pastel.
