DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A group of Roman Catholic nuns began a nine-state bus tour protesting proposed federal budget cuts Monday, saying they weren't trying to flout recent Vatican criticisms of socially active nuns but felt called to show how Republican policies are affecting low-income families.

NETWORK played a key role in supporting the Obama administration's health care overhaul despite the bishops' objections that the bill would provide government funding for abortion. The Leadership Conference disagreed with the bishops' analysis of the law and also supported President Barack Obama's plan. Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of NETWORK, said in a phone interview that the timing of the report suggested a link between their health care stand and the Vatican crackdown. The review began in 2009 and ran through June 2010, a few months after the health care law was approved.
I wonder why they are not protesting the liberal agenda of abortion. Seems that is worse than budget cuts for lay abouts.
The irony of the whole thing is that a capitalist society produces far more wealth to help the poor than a redistributionist socialist society has ever actually achieved.
Godless women. They are so far off the path that they might as well openly engage in all the depraved activity they are likely engaging in ‘private.’
I truly can’t wait to hear what their excuse will be during the final judgement. They have some many chances to repent, and yet they continue to deny God’s word.

America has spent trillions of dollars on poverty since the days of LBJ’s so-called “Great Society.” The war on poverty was a dismal failure.
Of course, if the Catholic Church wants to pay taxes on it’s real estate holdings in America, perhaps these bus touring sisters should advocate the Church pony up their own money for additional social(ist) programs.

A prophet is somebody who speaks for God and these are the things that God talked about - injustice, the poor, the marginalized, woman.
I’ve read the Bible. I did not see the Book where God stated that the Governments were not taxing the people enough.
WE (Christians) are instructed to help the poor, not to demand that someone else do so by having their taxes raised.
These Nuns are not doing God’s work. They are doing man’s work.
Please Lord, spare us from little old ladies in tie-dye...
These nuns are certainly not up-to-date regarding policies that promote wisdom, truth and love.....and those which do not.
Pray for their enlightenment.
The war on poverty proved the axiom that you get more of what you reward.
By enabling shiftlessness, we have created a subculture of people that feel that we owe them a comfortable living whether we can afford it or not.
These nuns are shortsighted busybodies that are doing long term damage to the parasites and the hosts, while they walk around feeling saintly.
If they come to Colorado, I’ll take the day off to explain to them that “Charity” is NOT a government function.
They might try GETTING GOVERNMENT OUT OF THE WAY, so these people might actually get JOBS!?!?!

I belong to the largest Parish in Colorado, so I hope they come this way!
A social justice nun in charge of her diocese’s office of Faith Formation just fired my daughter from her job as her admin ass’t in order to give it to the child of a personal friend. Now if my kid had been an illegal lettuce picker in the Central Valley I’m sure this nun would be out in the streets to support her.
If they're truly concerned about 'social justice', they should give some real thought to what has happened to 'poor people' as a result of liberal Democrat policies. It was a Democrat president, Lyndon B. Johnson, who declared a "War on Poverty". Judging by the increase in the numbers of people who are poor, and covered under entitlement programs, we need to fly the white flag of surrender, because that War was lost a long time ago.
Poor people, under liberal administrations, are like coal miners who 'owed their souls to the company store'. The miners never got ahead, because the system was rigged against them. Poor people in this country, if they continue to just depend on government handouts, will NEVER get out of the cycle of poverty. Republican policies are designed to help them break those slave chains of dependency, but the nuns don't seem to be able to see that.

Remember the late Mr. Blackwell and his worst dressed list. He would be spinning in his grave and calling for the fashion police if he could see that picture. At least the pink earings and yellow teeth match the colors in her blouse.

That's the basic error of this article.
LCWR is a canonical organization. It was founded BY the Vatican. It serves as the official liaison BETWEEN the Vatican and the member congregations. It is answerable TO the Vatican. The Vatican is reining it in --- it, the LCWSR, nobody else ---- for providing a platform for post-Catholics, and anti-Catholics in their own publications and at their own conferences. That means people who openly advocate going "beyond Church and beyond Christ" (apostates), people who are pro-abortion (homicide defenders), people who openly dissent about the meaning of human sexuality and marriage as instituted by Divine and Natural law.
That is all.
News about political prudential judgments --- whether I agree with these judgments or not ---- is not even remotely connected to the dispute between LCWR and the Vatican.
This kind of article just adds to the confusion.
