But I’m a good Mormon wife: Sean and I had the perfect life. Then his faith started to crumble...

...When Sean replaced his temple garments — the sacred underwear he’d promised to wear day and night — with boxers, I couldn’t take it anymore. It was too much betrayal. I called up a neighbor with a husband like mine and cried. But instead of empathy, she offered questions that stunned me into silence. Was Sean addicted to pornography? Watching R-rated movies? What sin had brought him to this terrible place?

...Her questions were so off-base...She was sincere, and trying to help, but she believed what the Church teaches — that a man would only leave because he’s disobeying the commandments. She couldn’t understand this was a rational inquiry. She saw everything as the result of sin.

...The Church was wrong about him. What else might they be wrong about?...

...I often found him hunched over his iPad reading everything he could find on Mormon origins...“I’m sorry, but I just have to tell you. Did you know that…” and then he’d tell me...About how Joseph Smith mistranslated some Egyptian hieroglyphics that are part of our canonized scripture. About how he translated the Book of Mormon while looking at a stone inside of a hat.

I listened half-heartedly...though I wasn’t about to go looking at them myself...until one night it was about polygamy, my archnemesis.

“Did you know that Joseph Smith married a 14-year-old girl against her will? Did you know that he’d send men on missions and marry their wives in secret when they were gone?” ...he kept talking, a horror growing in my gut. I knew that if Sean was right, then Joseph Smith was a fraud. I saw no difference between his acts and the modern-day acts of Warren Jeffs, whom I abhorred. And if Joseph Smith was a fraud — then what did that make the Church?

I pray that those who declare an inability to vote for a Mormon soon realize that they may be speeding up Sharia law.

You know, I was just told by several FREEPERs on another thread (see Op-Ed: Mitt Romney's proposed career path — President, then God [White House-->Great White Throne] that Obama deemed himself a "god."

True Muslims would deem that anathema.

The Romney operatives on FR can't seem to get their story straight: Many peg Obama as a closet Muslim slowly implementing sharia law; others couch Obama as a "god." Those are two contradictory worldviews...which shows you that most of the religious attacks upon Obama (other than the past Jeremiah Wright ones) are done minus proof.

I suppose that’s why Salon published today a critique of Obama from its more conservative wing (West Virginia).

&&&
I read that piece, and it seemed to me to be a slam at those who oppose ObaMao.

I’m neither Mormon nor Catholic. I’m simply gratified that I needn’t choose between them. But, how does that alter the fact Mitt Romney will be the next POTUS?

How many Mormons ran for President before Romney...NONE.

Actually, their founder Joseph Smith, Jr ran for POTUS in 1844. He was the first POTUS candidate who was assassinated, although it can be fairly argued that he wasn’t killed because of his campaign but because of his other behavior.

Beyond a Bishop (equiv to a Catholic priest or a Protestant Pastor), Romney was what the LDS call a ‘Stake President’ (equiv to a Catholic Bishop). He was middle management for them.

I’m not politically correct either. ;)

I have an LDS friend (from High School) who is trying to get her boyfriend to join the LDS. I warned her, either she tells him EVERYTHING or I will. She knows I mean it, too.

Hypocrisy is an issue for the Moslems and the leftwingtards. The Prophet said "kill the hypocrites".

Good to stay away from that stuff.

There's plenty to deal with in any of this.

I don’t think he will. I don’t think he can actually win even in an election where it should be nearly automatic.

Why is Romney able to defeat Obama?

I think out of the 16 known candidates in the primaries that he is one of the few who couldn't.

I’m so confident Obama can’t win, that I’m enthused about November 6th, Romney notwithstanding!

It's not material now. Newt is not going to be the nominee. Santorum is not going to be the nominee. Ron Paul is not going to be the nominee. Deal with reality, please!!

We're stuck with Romney whether we like it or not. The other alternative is Obama and you don't belong at FR if you want more of Obama. All third parties and protest votes may soothe your conscience but they do nothing to defeat Obama.

Romney can win simply because he's not the leader of an economic depression like Obama has been. That's the major difference between the two. Romney has at least a modicum of economic sense while Obama has none.

You are unrealistic. You've gotten a guy who can't win lined up to run against Obama who, by all that's right and holy, could be easily beaten by almost anyone.

The first rule is to get your own political base to vote for you. The second rule is to get a faction on the other side to vote for you. You are going into a campaign with a candidate who cannot get his own political base to vote for him.

I think that is exceedingly stupid of you. Actually, it suggests serious mental retardation among the principals in GOP-e. Their chillun' should have themselves checked for serious genetic defects.

Huge difference there spunky. The LDS church is based here int he US and the prophet HAS ordered LDS congress critters to vote the way he tells them even if it is against their conscience.

If that were true, wouldn't Orrin Hatch and Harry Reid have identical voting records?
