Yeah, so inconsistent. Not like those Catholics. Meat on Friday is a mortal sin, going to hell. Oh wait, never mind!

Could you provide a citation from the Catholic Catechism indicating when eating meat on Friday was a mortal sin? Just asking. Thanks

The change in meatless Fridays is not a change in any command of God revealed by Revelation. The Catholic Church has never said that it is a biblical command to have meatless fridays. The Catholic has said that Jesus gave the key's of the kingdom to the apostles to bind on earth and in heaven and that the Church continues to have this authority through Apostolic Succession. Thus through these keys, the Church has the authority to require fasting and penance to make up for our sins and short comings and to increase the holiness of all Catholics. The way the Church traditionally chose to offer this penance to God was by requiring Catholics to abstain from eating meat on the day of the Lord's Crucifixion.

By the way, the Catholic Church law still requires Catholics to abstain from meat on Fridays as a form of penance, however, a Catholic is now free to replace abstaining from meat with another penance, or charitable work if the Conference of Catholic bishops allows it. Nevertheless, abstaining from eating meat on Fridays is still the normal form of this penance.
