I have a lot of experience with Mormons.

They are decent...
They are kind...
They are helpful...

To other Mormons.

Their charity is strictly for those who are in good standing with their ward.

Their friendliness/kindness is gushing and genuine as long as they think they can convert you to join their cult.

Ditto, their helpfulness.

But, again and again and again, the other choice for president is a well known danger to this country, a nightmare of epic proportions.

I will take the Mormon over the Moron.

Ansel12: "Any cult started in America is 'an American religion', there must be thousands of them, Scientology for instance...." and etc.

I agree with you fully, and I am well aware of the problems (okay, heresies) of the Mormon religion. I think I -- like many Christians -- consider it more of a cult than a religion, at least from a "gut instinct" sort of way. Sociologically, it has received the independent status, recognition, numbers, and mainstream acceptance to make it a religion.

Scientology is an excellent example for compare and contrast, as is Rev Moon's Unification Church, Secular Humanism, "the Way" and others that I know all about, and some that I merely have heard of. It could be interesting to read (or write) a book on how they vary in gnosticism, self-worship, asceticism, righteousness, and variance from belief in Christ, and a dozen other characteristics.

For instance, Apostolic Christians disdain (or at least pity and pray for) Evangelical Christians who are trinitarians! They consider worship of the 3-in-1 Godhead to be a form of idolatry. Go figure, I have believed since reading certain books in my teenage years, that God in three persons is a mystical thing to which the laws of nature / physics bear witness!

However, like Mark Twain once said, "it is not the parts of the Bible that I DON'T [fully] understand that concern me the most, but the parts that I DO [fully] understand!"

So my daily walk is my focus, as it should be. The faith and practice of the Mormon church is low on my list of concerns. The testimony of their behavior indicates to me a moral power, hopefully from God. I am not in the business of proving otherwise. I am sure that there are websites though (similar to "Operation Clambake" which exposes Scientology, but instead focused on the Mormon Church) which DO take issue with the LDS faith and practice.

I am pretty sure Jesus was quoted in one circumstance saying "He who is not for us is against us" and in another circumstance "He who is not against us is for us". Perhaps what he meant and in what circumstance he said one rather than the other is an important point in a discussion like this. I'll take the "look up".

I once (quite recently!) sent 2 Jehovah's Witnesses away from my door after asking them some questions about Islam's beliefs, practices, and demographics. I told them that if they don't find -- and band together with -- allies in the fight against Islam, then they are fighting the wrong fight. That is pretty much how I feel about Christians and Mormons these days.

JMHO.

I’m not aware of a more anti-Jesus cult/religion, than Mormonism.

Of course, Islam is like all religions, it doesn’t accept Jesus as God, nor does Judaism, other religions, don’t recognize him at all, or whatever.

Mormonism is formed, constructed, and executed, to destroy Jesus, to deconstruct him and then to rebuild him, to seduce his believers into a NEAR belief in Jesus, an almost Jesus, that melds into you becoming a Jesus yourself.

He’s lying. Polygamy is still in their scripture, and they plan on being eternally polygamous with the mates they have sealed with in the temple.

Where is it at in their scripture?

No comment, but I will say that anyone that leaves the Church founded by Christ himself 2,000 years ago to join one started by some con-man named Joe Smith ain’t playing with full deck. Glenn Beck lost whatever marbles he had years ago. Someone needs to remind Beck that the word of God is in the Bible, not the book of morman.

Right, nor the Catholic, nor a thousand others.

The truth is that Joseph Smith was a sexual predator both before and after he dreamed up the whole Mormon religion. In fact, he created the Mormon religion because Christianity and American Christians in particular would not tolerate his deviant sexual behavior. Rather than conform his conduct to Christian standards, he chose to make up the Mormon religion so that his wife and others could not condemn him for his sexual perversions.

If that were the truth why would he go to all of the trouble to forbid men to have more than one wife, the book of Mormon forbids men to have more than one wife.

There is certainly a danger that more people will gravitate to Mormonism with a Mormon as president.

If that happens then the Mormons will have the power to enforce the laws of the book of Mormon, which means of course that men can not have multiple wives As the BOOK OF MORMON FORBIDS IT.

I will vote for Obama.

Now the truth is being told, any church that hold themselves as a religion even if they claim to be Christian are no different than Islam, that is what i have thought for quite some time.

But i will still vote on Romney over Obama.

Ansel, I'm not posting this to apologize for mormonism or argue with you, but are you aware that the Eastern Orthodox Church teaches that the goal of the chrstian life is quite literally "deification" (theosis in Greek)? As a matter of fact what Catholics call "sanctifying grace" they call "deifying grace."

Are you aware that some of the ancient church fathers (I've read various ones credited with the quote) said that "[the chrstian]'gxd' became man so that man may become 'gxd?'"

An Eastern Orthodox friend once explained to me that through participation in the life of the Orthodox Church one becomes a "gxd;" not by nature, but "'gxds' by the grace of [the chrstian] 'gxd.'"

Again, I'm not defending mormonism, but I can't help but wonder how much you know about more ancient versions of chrstianity than your own.

I guess that means you accept the Mormon belief that they can become a God such as ours, and have a planet to rule over and worshipers, is Christian.

Ansel . . . you're completely missing the point. I wasn't defending mormonism. I was pointing out that much of ancient chrstianity accepts "deification." If "deification" is wrong when mormons advocate it, it should be wrong when anyone else advocates it as well (although the "gxd" of mormonism is obviously very different from the "gxd" of traditional chrstianity).

I am as theologically anti-mormon as anyone. A mormon president doesn't scare me because all our presidents have been either skeptics or members of a false religion. Mormonism is a weird and false religion but so is every version of chrstianity. The fact that the ancient church fathers were writing about the "deification" of man centuries before Joseph Smith did should tell you something, shouldn't it?

I'm a Noachide. I'll never get to vote for a Noachide president. I'll always have to pick the candidate who comes the closest to my own beliefs. And now so will you.

If you aren’t saying that Christianity agrees with Mormonism that you become a God and have your own planet to rule over with your own worshipers, just like our Christian God, then why bother me?

First of all, I'm not saying that. That is found nowhere other than in mormonism.

Second of all, I saying that if you believe that "deification" of any kind whatsoever is offensive, then you shouldn't be a chrstian in the first place and should investigate Noachism.

And I'll probably "bother" you the next time you condemn a chrstian concept in the name of chrstianity.

Do you understand the simple concept that to someone to whom all chrstianity is sheer nonsense and idolatry, your anti-mormon crusade is just plain silly?

Good, that was my only interest, if you want to discuss your other topic then you should find someone that wants to chat with you about such things.

Sorry about that, i was just saying that anything can be called a religion, including politics, or rather politics is a religion, true Christianity need not have any rituals involved in it. it is just living by faith in God and his son.

Jesus said you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free, he told us the truth, and personally i do not see any religion in what he told us to do.

Do you reckon he set us free from the snare of the devil which includes religion?
