"Choices so stark that no matter how it was decided, at least half the country would viscerally disagree. "

I did get as far as this statement and realized it didn't apply. The choices here are the same. GOP liberal or a 'rat liberal.

Christians can be concerned about many things and even frightened about circumstances. (I’m reasonably certain that Christians who have been burned to death had some fear.) But when a Christian expresses fear, and that fear overwhelms them, then that is outside Scripture. I understand that non-Christians won’t comprehend these statements, but I am not writing for them.

The one constant message of John Paul II was, "Be not afraid."

We are in the midst of a spiritual battle, and most of us are oblivious to its effects. I believe that God has set aside America to be the place where the final spiritual battle will take place. The world is watching us and they are looking for leadership.

What kind of faith will it take? The kind that Jesus told the apostles to have as He asked them to step out of the boat.

My father once told me that when he was a teenager he was babysitting some of his nieces and nephews. They would jump off the porch and he would catch them. Well, he began to get tired. He turned briefly thinking that all of them were tired too, when one little niece jumped into the air. Fortunately, he saw her launch from the corner of his eye and he turned back quick enough to catch her.

He said that what struck him most about it was her absolutely complete faith that he would catch her. He never forgot that.

That kind of faith is endearing to a God who loves us so. With that kind of faith God can do much with us and for us.

Peter outside the boat was Christ's demonstration to all of us that that kind of faith is essential for tasks contained in spiritual warfare.

Be not afraid. Have faith and when you see these things come to pass look up and know that your salvation is at hand.

How do you deal with an electorate (as a Christian) that is selfish, covetous, falsely self righteous, greedy, crude, crass, and haughty?

The answer according to the Scriptures is that we love them, and demonstrate love.

However, I am struggling with this. We are also confronted with Evil in a very real sense. A homosexual man who is occupying the Presidency. A wicked, evil man.

What are we to do?

I believe we are at a crossroads. It won't be pretty. America may have had its day.

Thank you. I am scared of the short term troubles, and looking forward to the long term result. I have also worried that being scared was proof of insuficient faith. It sure helps to know that Jesus was scared too!

King James Bible Luke 21:36 - Words of Jesus:

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

I prepare for whatever may come, knowing I don’t have to worry about the outcome.

So, so many of the electorate you cite also love to tell you that they’re Christian, God-fearing and conservative. Just pay no attention to their votes.

That’s the rub.

It is good to remember that other people at other times faced the same, or worse, circumstances of their existence. Fear is a universal emotion and NO ONE is exempt from its hold. As Christians, we have an advantage because we know who is ultimately in charge of ALL things and we know that not one thing can happen without God's approval. Even Satan could do nothing unless God permitted him.

I agree that we are living in fearful times and the country we love is at a major crossroad but, regardless of the path we take THIS time, God's will IS going to happen - HIS way. We have already been told what the ultimate outcome will be and that is why, though we are afraid for what we hold dear, we need not fear the future because we know WHO holds it and the day is coming where EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. As much as I love America, it is NOT my true home. My home is with my Father in heaven and my eternity is there, not here.

We have kicked God out. We have elected a bunch of Spiritual drunkards .If the people do not repent how can God bless this country?

This nation is being shaken and only one answer for those who really follow Christ (not counting those who just call themselves Christians but are nothing but tares among the wheat )and that is to get on your knees and pray for revival .

I plan to vote against Obama because I know my nation can not survive 4 more years . I know that my nation can not survive the implementation of Obama care and the death panels and it’s exemption for muslims (what do you think is going to happen when all those people realize they don’t have to pay for the insurance if they just convert especially when so many of them already think that allah is the same as God ?). We are just steps away from becoming Nazi Germany all over again and way to many are just keeping quite .

God is in control tho and I know he has guided me through many troubles before and he will continue to do so no matter what happens . No time to worry or be afraid , time to trust the Lord .

Php 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
Php 4:12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Hebrews 11:13,16 "...but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." "But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."

Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

The debates were in 1858, not 1860. 1860 was a Presidential election year. Douglas was never a candidate for POTUS.

unchof

Don't dread the prep thing but don't put your faith in it either. I keep enough food in my house to feed my family and a few others for over 6 months to a year at all times.

People used to farm/garden and can/store enough of those items until the next harvest season . We have forgotten this because of the convenience of the modern grocery store . Everyone should keep at least 3 months worth of food in their house for emergencies .

By keeping such a large pantry of staples and a freezer full of meat I do not have to shop weekly and this allows me to only shop the sales and this saves me enough grocery money to be able to help others and donate a bunch of stuff to the local church food bank. Keeping 6months to a years supply of food on hand is not hoarding it's how everyone used to live and it saves you a lot of $ in the long run.

Amen! Thank you for that Scripture. We ARE strangers and pilgrims on earth and that “better” country is our eternal home with our Lord and Savior.
