Is the church the body of believers?
None of that has anything to do with Yeshua’s church.
(The Bible was written in greek hebrew and aramaic, not French(?) and Latin)1. high-ranking member of clergy: a high-ranking member of the Christian clergy, e.g. an abbot, bishop, or cardinal
[ 13th century. Via French < medieval Latin praelatus, < past participle of Latin praeferre
St_Thomas_Aquinas, That would be a group of born again Christians that one is is fellowship with.
All of which are the French "prelates"
I refer you to a post made up thread a bit:
1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.The church is the body of believers, ie those that are born again.1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
You see, when Christ died on the cross the veil was rent and the old Jewish priesthood was no longer needed because now each believer had access to the throne of God through the blood of Jesus. Jesus is now the High Priest who represents us before the Throne of God.
Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
And that honor the Bible:
Eph 5:21--Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.God, and even Pope Peter, have proclaimed born again Christians to be Holy Royal priests in order to minister to each other. One on one, or if needed, before the whole congregration that one is fellowshiping withHebrews 10:24-25 (King James Version)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
St_Thomas_Aquinas, I believe your inquiry was answered quite well in This Post
I think this quote from above
"when Christ died on the cross the veil was rent and the old Jewish priesthood was no longer needed because now each believer had access to the throne of God through the blood of Jesus"
clears things up quite well.
Thank you, very good answer.
Amen Alamo-Girl, thank you!
I noticed you are discussing the priesthood here; you might be interested in this post on a different thread also currently discussing the priesthood.
Thank you, I looked at that post and it is VERY informative.
I’ve been off and on that thread lately...
Cronos: Interesting, e-s, cant you make up your mind? Is is Tammuz or Zeus or Apollo or Constantine?
editor: Its all the same
Err.. no, it's not "all the same" -- Zeus was a Greek god and Jupiter was the Romaoi equivalent, while Mithra was a Persian god with no equivalent in the Graeco-Roman pantheon and was an outcrop of Zoroastrianism
Tammuz was a Sumerian god, completely unrelated to those above Indo-European gods
And Constantine was an Emperor, not even a deified Emperor like the ones from Octavian onwards
And, do you know what you are talking about? Zeus didn't have a "birthday" -- there was no birthday celebration for Zeus or Jupiter
Constantine was born on 27th FEBRUARY
and Tammuz had the month Tammuz named after him which was a summer month -- in Arabic it corresponds to the month of July....
On the contrary, your statement /One thing that is absolutely certain at this point is that the original language of the gospels was Hebrew, not Greek. is the one with no evidence
Read the archaeological evidence for this and the historical evidence
The language of the people of Palestine shifted from Hebrew to Aramaic sometime between 721-500 B.C. Therefore, we know that Jesus, his disciples and contemporaries spoke and wrote in Aramaic. The message of Christianity spread throughout Palestine, Syria and Mesopotamia in this Semitic tongue.
Use of the Aramaic language had become common by the period of the Chaldean Empire (626-539 B.C.). It became the official language of the Imperial government in Mesopotamia and enjoyed general use until the spread of Greek (331 B.C.). Although Greek had spread throughout these Eastern lands, Aramaic remained dominant and the linqua franca of the Semitic peoples. This continued to be so until Aramaic was superseded by a sister Semitic tongue, Arabic, about the 13th century A.D. to the 14th century A.D., when Arabic supplanted Aramaic after the Arab conquest in the 7th Century. However, the Christians of Mesopotamia (Iraq), Iran, Syria, Turkey and Lebanon kept the Aramaic language alive domestically, scholastically and liturgically. In spite of the pressure of the ruling Arabs to speak Arabic, Aramaic is still spoken today in its many dialects, especially among the Chaldeans and Assyrians.
The proof is in the language of the ancient Christians in Israel, Syria, Lebanon and Chaldea -- what is the theological language? Not Hebrew but Aramaic
in the Greek New testamtne the words used are mostly Aramaic, not Hebrew
example: Matthew 27:46 eli eli lema sabachthani is ARAMAIC, not Hebrew as in Psalm 22:1 eli eli lama azavtani
Note — Salvation said Christians. That’s Catholics, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, Baptists, Orthodox, Copts, Lutherans, Methodists, Anglicans, Assyrians etc. — now run along and read r hadiths and come back to argue.
What was posted was from Paul via his letter to the Eps 4:6.
What I am trying to say is that, is that, instead of arguing on the “small details”, find what can help bring Christians from all the different churches together.
The large family tree of Christians.
Pope Stephen VI (896897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]
Pope John XII (955964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.
Pope Benedict IX (10321044, 1045, 10471048), who "sold" the Papacy
Pope Boniface VIII (12941303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy
Pope Urban VI (13781389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]
Pope Alexander VI (14921503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]
Pope Leo X (15131521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]
Pope Clement VII (15231534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.
While it’s true the NT is almost certain not to have been written originally in Hebrew...
You might want to update your scholarship:
The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, edit. F.L. Cross, first edition (Oxford, 1958), 3rd edition (Oxford 1997)
...once said in 1958 in its first edition, Hebrew “ceased to be a spoken language around the fourth century BC”, now says in 1997 in its third edition, Hebrew “continued to be used as a spoken and written language in the New Testament period”.
Simple; the non-Catholics can return to the TRUE church and follow IT'S rules and then the world will be right.
As were all alive at the time and future born again Christians.
And also by (Catholicism's first "Pope") Peter.
Ordained a Holy and Royal priesthood.
Is that in your Bible?
I don't understand why Catholics don't take God and Peter (who is revered by them as their first Pope) at their word and realize that they themselves are Holy and Royal priests.
All Christian churches receive their teaching from the Catholic Church
That is a total falsehood.
Christian churches receive their teachings from the Word of God, the Bible.
And the one who is the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ.
Through the ministering of the Holy Spirit.
Being deeply embedded in Catholicism seems to cause a person to believe everything spiritual comes from them. It's just not the case.
Jesus' church is the body of believers, not a particular denomination.
Even our founding fathers realized that when drafting the Constitution when they prevented a single denomination from representing our great country.
Are they just born that way?
What do you mean when you write such a blanket statement?
Not according to Pope Benedict XVI who said in 2007 that Christian denominations other than his own were not true churches and their holy orders have no value.
Agreeing with Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's proclamation in 2000 (Domine Jesus document)
The Pope also said at the time that Orthodox churches were defective.
Just BELIEVE is what is IMPORTANT!
