Why do I want a pill crusher?

To make her kibble into powder...hiding it in the salmon.

Her nose still works well enough to tell I’ve slipped in food she doesn’t want.

At this point, I’ve been sitting on the floor, feeding her greasy turkey and slimy salmon out of my hands.

Whatever works, I reckon.

You can stop driving yourself crazy...everything you can possibly think, I’ve probably already tried.

This isn’t my first non-eating dog...it’s just for a different reason.

:-\

She’s a dog. I care. You’re my friend. I care.

My mind sometimes shuts down at night when I’m sleeping...so, if something pops in there.......oh never mind. You’re right. You’ve probably thought of it before me. :)

Taffi’s now so “sure” I have meds in my hand, in her food...that she’s getting leery of me. Ha! She DOES love her Cod Liver Oil though!

Go figure.

You've probably already thought of this (and I know neither proposal is ideal, but perhaps one of the solutions would be better than nothing....)

Any chance of a milk substitute?

A lactating female dog in your pack who would allow Halla to nurse?

She’s 7 months old and 25” tall.

Pretty sure no mommy dog is gonna put up with that.

[and my other 2 girls are spayed..they barely have nipples, let alone milk]

She’s not big on milk anyway.

Thanks for trying to help her.

:)

I agree with what you are doing. No matter what she is eating from your hand..be it salmon, Taco Bell or MickeyDs..she eating something. I might try to grind up some vitamans or something and try to trick her a little bit so its not all empty calories. But if it’s a no go with her, at least she has food in her tummy.

I am worried that she doesn’t drink.

Praying for Halla to eat and drink on her own..and a little rest for you. This has to be a horrible strain.

The calorie goop has vitamins so she’s good with that.

I wonder if she’d eat a 1/4 Pounder?

She likes peanut butter sandwiches well enough.

She’s a bit better at drinking tonight.

She used to drink like a fiend..maybe too much.

Her half brother Odin drinks gobs of water about twice a day.

She used to drink nearly all the time, which I thought ‘odd’.

She’s peeing fine so she must be getting enough.

[she used to pee a lot]

I’ve been sleeping some but it’s not really rest.

Crazy dreams that never end.

I’m more tired when I wake up than when I went to sleep.

I’ve been through a lot of terrible stuff in my life but this has to be at the top of the current list.

I’m not used to being helpless or having to sit idly by and do nothing.

I can’t grab ahold of this thing and conquer it.

I hate that.

Sorry, I wish I could come up with great ideas. Never had a dog turn up its nose with chicken or canned catfood. Especially fed by hand as you’ve been doing.

Kind of a variation on the sodium free broth mentioned above, what about thinned gravy? I had a cat with a failing liver who would at least lick up the gravy from around the solid bits of tinned food, before her appetite completely went away.

This kind of vigil is heartbreaking.

Um, there was an earlier post in this thread with Dobie stalking on it. Of course I followed into several more links because it fascinated me. I’ve never seen that before! Freaky behavior I’ve never seen from even my smartest dogs. Freaky-awesome is what I mean.

Part of it may be her brain going weird and part of it may be her head-faking me.

You never know with these guys.

If she gobbles down those horrid Pupperonis, she must want to eat.

We just can’t afford to feed her 2 bags of them a day and they’re garbage, besides.
[dog junk food candy]

She’ll also eat all the PB sandwiches you give her but PB is scary because of intestinal blockages.

Yes, it’s a heartbreaking vigil.

I couldn’t have come up with a more perfect way to describe it.

The “Doberman Stalk” is infamous.

A barking Dobe is a harmless Dobe.

That’s why they’re great guard dogs.

Somebody breaks in and all of a sudden, this Ninja dog just ‘appears out of nowhere’.

I reckon that would freak anybody out.

I’ve read stories of burglars who broke in and never knew there was a Dobe in the house until they turned to leave and saw it sitting there, blocking their way out.

Richard Pryor did a really funny skit about it.

What cracks me up when they stalk is the stop-action foot suspended in midair thing.

Trippy dogs.

My Wonder Dobe was totally convinced that if he slowly lowered his front end while his rump was still in the air, he was “invisible”.

I humored him.

I’d call his name, look past him, wondering where he was..the whole act.

Eventually he’d ‘suddenly erupt from invisibility’ and jump on me, ‘laughing’.

[he probably thought I was a complete idiot]

We put Gypsy in the bedroom with Halla and then gave Gypsy her food.

Halla’s eating some of it.

This is a good thing.

[and Gypsy, perpetual “mommy” that she is, doesn’t mind]

:)

I’m not crying so much now.

I'm sorry I can't offer you advice on little Halla because I perceive you are way more knowledgable regarding our furry friends than I and I do mean waaaay more!

It's wonderfull that God made sure she went to the right people! For Halla's sake I'm so glad it's you. It's a beautifull thing God has laid on your heart,I hope you know that, there may well be many more.

I’m happy to hear that you’ve mostly stopped crying and that Halla is eating some.

I’m still lurking on this thread and still praying for Halla and all your pets and you.

So glad to hear that MissHalla is eating a little more, and that you are crying a little less, small smile. Mostly because your post at 529 made me LOL, sheepish look.

Thank You Lord, for laughter and tears!

Speaking of ground chuck. Ever used Satin Balls?

http://www.dogforum.net/dog-frequently-asked-questions/5191-how-make-satin-balls-fat-balls.html

I know they’re a pain in the backside to make, but in a pinch you can reduce the recipe and they provide a lot of calories in a relatively small volume.
