Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Prophet Zechariah

Chapter 5

Vision of the Flying Scroll

1. Then I turned and raised my eyes, and saw there a flying scroll.

2. And he said to me, “What do you see?”
So I answered,
“I see a flying scroll.
Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits.”

3. Then he said to me,
“This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth:
‘Every thief shall be expelled,’
according to this side of the scroll;
and, ‘Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.”
4. “ I will send out the curse,” says the LORD of hosts;
“ It shall enter the house of the thief
And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name.
It shall remain in the midst of his house
And consume it, with its timber and stones.”

Vision of the Woman in a Basket

5. Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me,
“Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth.”

6. So I asked, “What is it?”
And he said, “It is a basket[a] that is going forth.”
He also said, “This is their resemblance throughout the earth:
7. Here is a lead disc lifted up,
and this is a woman sitting inside the basket”;
8. then he said, “This is Wickedness!”
And he thrust her down into the basket,
and threw the lead cover[b] over its mouth.

9. Then I raised my eyes and looked,
and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings;
for they had wings like the wings of a stork,
and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.
10. So I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they carrying the basket?”

11. And he said to me,
“To build a house for it in the land of Shinar;[c] when it is ready,
the basket will be set there on its base.”

Footnotes:

a. 1. Zechariah 5:6 Hebrew ephah, a measuring container, and so elsewhere
b. 2. Zechariah 5:8 Literally stone
c. 3. Zechariah 5:11 That is, Babylon

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty and Eternal Father,
Strong To Save,
Slow To Anger and Infinitely Merciful and Just,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Hallowed and Wonderful Name!
How Marvelous Are Your Works, That the Very Heavens Declare Your Glory,
Without Embarrassment,
they Just Burst Forth in Sumptuous, Overwhelming Praise!
The Stars, The Rocks, The Waterfalls,
Even The Lowly Grasses of The Field Burst Forth into Riotous Colors,
In Worship of Their Awesome Creator!
And yet we,
The Crown of Your Creation,
That which You Made in Your Image,
That in Whom You Breathed Your Spirit,
Those in Whom You Share Your Creative Genius,
unlike ANY OTHER CREATURE of Your Wonderful Works,
Continue to rebel against You,
And sin against You and against Our Fellow Man,
and not Believe You,
and Disobey You, and not follow Your Precepts,
even when You give us Your Word!

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today's short but difficult Text is Zechariah, Chapter 5.

The Not So Minor Prophet has Two Visions, One of a Flying Scroll,
And The Other of a Woman being carried away in a basket with a lead weight on her head!
I took the liberty of studying several traditional commentaries and am sharing some of what I found.
The internet can be an Interesting Place!

Here are some Typical Biblical Symbols that appear in this Vision:

1. The Scroll Probably represents the Law of God.
On one side are the sins that were against the Eternal One,
and on the other side were the sins against our fellow Man.
2. The Woman in the Basket represents The People of Israel.
All through both Hebrew and Christian Scripture, Israel is represented by a Woman.
3. The Basket itself is a measuring device used to measure grain. The root word "Ephah", was also seen in the "Handwriting on the Wall" in Daniel.
4. The Lead Weight is SIN!
5. The Woman is placed in the measuring basket, weighted down with her sin, and carried off to Babylon.
A grim chapter, but Redemption is Coming in the Next Ones! Don't Give Up!

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!

"THEN I TURNED, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.

And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?

And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base."

Zechariah 5 (KJV)
