Since late January, some neighbors have expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement between City of God church and its landlord, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
Azin Ehsan, who moved to the area in 2001, complained that the church service at Grant is noisy, has too many signs and banners and brings more cars to the neighborhood.
"I don't want anything happening here on Sundays," said Ehsan, a mother of three. "We have so much noise during the week, we just want it to be quiet. They should find a better venue."

If it was a gay carnival they would all be OK with the use of the school.
How loud can a congregation of fewer than 75 be, and how much traffic can they produce? That would be fewer cars than the regular staff of the school.
If their amps are rattling someone’s fillings, a competent sound guy can fix that in five seconds.
Anybody who locates near a school should expect that the school will have events whenever it pleases. Schools commonly rent out their space to churches. Our local school has Japanese Saturday school and local sports leagues on campus during weekends, in addition to Sunday church services.
It all helps pay the bills and serves the community.
Hey, if the neighbors want it quiet, they could rent the school themselves on Sunday mornings, and leave it empty.
They sounds like the people in our neighborhood who moved near a helicopter factory, and then complain about helicopter noise.
Azin Ehsan? Fine Irish lass, I take it?
The praise and worship musicians were a huge draw....they were quite awesome, especially the electric violin!...and the drums.
Although you could barely hear it from the outside.....so I doubt it was bothering anyone.
Parking is at a premium in LA....anywhere in LA....so this is a given .....church or anthing else.
There’s always tight parking in that neighborhood. These are probably some of the same people who also complain about the Santa Monica airport.
Sounds like Super Fun Rock Band Church.
Our old walk to Parish was taken by the Arch-Diocese of Boston and given to a Haitian church from out of town. There is no parking lot and they park illegally, including in handicapped spaces and blocking driveways. They also stay from morning till midnight with loud music playing. They moved six families into the church hall. Finally the city had to go in. One city official who was a leader in the Italian church could hardly hold back the tears when he described the damage they had done.
If a church came to her home after she moved in she could have a gripe.
Same with airports and planes flying over. If you moved in understanding that was happening and probably why it was cheaper to move in, then tough.
Ditto if the church were Black.
The church isn't Black, is it? If it is, someone mark the calendar.
A stage band of 5 can rattle the neighbor's windows. Churches are putting teenagers in charge of the sound. Many congregations can't hear themselves sing. I've been to churches where some people have to wait in the lobby until the singing is finished. Too loud.
True. That's why I mentioned adjusting the sound to reasonable levels. If it's a legitimate noise issue, that can easily be dealt with. The most charismatic congregation can rejoice at the (unamplified) top of their lungs in a school auditorium and not be heard outside the building. If they have to cut down on the electronics, it could save them lifelong hearing damage.
Oh, bite me!
Churches should be held to the same noise standards as anybody else. Measure the decibels.
Agree. If the church is louder than the school when it’s in session, cut the Db.
Who asked you, busybody?
LOL, you mean the church I attended?
No, it was a very proper Reformed Presbyterian, PCA.
The praise and worship group (band) was awesome, though.
