Catholicism: Scandalous in Every Age
http://www.crisismagazine.com ^ | April 23, 2014 | Anthony Esolen

A few weeks ago, a Catholic priest caused quite a stir in one of our local diocesan high schools. He spoke the truth about sex. Pause here to sigh, and to wish that our heresies were more interesting.

Some of the parents and students objected. They did not say, “The priest presented the truth in a way that made it less likely that the audience would accept it. We are worried that the Church’s teachings did not appear in the best light. We need to do some considerable work right now, lest the students go on to reject what they do not understand.” No one said anything of the sort. It was clear that they objected to what the priest had said, rather than how he said it. Not one of the parents crying out for the principal’s head troubled to suggest any way in which the Church’s teachings might be presented with more effective power. They objected not to the strategy, but to the battle. They do not want the Church to win. They want the Church to surrender.

Somehow, I ended up on the mailing list of some of the objectors, and learned that they were worried that the principal was leading the school in a “conservative to orthodox direction.” They were also worried that the principal had recommended texts designed to encourage students not simply to know what the Church teaches, but to be “living crusaders for Christ.” Here was my response:

I’m almost to the point of surrendering to the “I don’t need to do a search” crowd, many of whom appear to have “born-on” dates newer than the shoes I’m wearing. I got all kinds of static from some goofball yesterday when I pointed out that I had posted the same exact article about 12 hours earlier.

Folks get mad when you point out their mistakes.

I’m fine with that as long as the message sticks.

Crying about how the search function doesn’t work well is pretty much a fail..
since I just used it and it worked just fine as demonstrated.

Then there are the “duplicate enablers” who claim they wouldn’t have seen the article had it not been re-posted..

But hey, I’ve got enough fixations to worry about already..

Count me among the “duplicate enablers”, for exactly the reason you specify...

There is a reason the major news outlets repeat top stories every 30 minutes.

So a search for the article, and posting to it therefor bumping it to the top of the latest posts lists.. is not as good as re-posting it?

It is for the benefit of those of us who do not know an article exists until we see it on FR without scrolling through 10-18 hours of posts.

So yeah.

Let’s find six or seven good articles and just recycle them every few hours.

But you miss the point.

Say someone finds an article.. a damned good article. One you would like.
They do a search.. see that it’s already been posted.. say yesterday.

They could re-post it..

OR they could post a comment on it which MOVES IT TO THE TOP OF THE PAGE where you will see it.

Just as if they had re-posted it.

True story.

Actually Christianity is always a scandal to the world which worships false gods of every sort. Since Jesus Christ was crucified because of non-belief and envy, why should we be surprised that the world despises all Christians too?

We ought to embrace the animosity that is turned upon us, and thank God for all our blessings.

I have posted articles before AFTER A SEARCH to see if the article was posted before and nothing came up. Then low and behold someone will say it was posted before. Usually one word difference in the subject. Wish FR had a an edit/delete button so you could delete a duplicate posting.
