Always good for the communists to have the leaders of the US and the Vatican doing their bidding for them

It amazes me how much yack is generated by a secondhand he-said, she-said situation. The horse’s mouth, the pope himself, isn’t talking.

While in the evangelical segment of Christendom there isn’t an emphasis like this on the authoritative role of a pastor or preacher (the bible is considered the last word), when there is something like this there usually isn’t this sort of brouhaha.

This kind of thing gives new meaning to the question:

.

Is the Pope Catholic?

LOL!

If Nancy Pelosi can receive communion, then some practicing catholic who happens to be married to a divorcee should not be denied.

BTW, I thought that if the Pope declares someone absolved of sin on Earth, that it is automatically recognized in Heaven.

The Pope can only forgive a sin which has been admitted by a contrite sinner. He cannot pre-preemptively forgive sins to be committed in the future, nor continuing sins for which there is no remorse. He can also not contradict Jesus on what constitutes a sin.

1. The recipient of the phone talk has spoken.

2. The Vatican acknowledges the call was made.

3. The Pope refuses to deny what the recipient has claimed.

4. Why hasn’t he?

Could you give me the chapter and verse on that?

I am aware that during Reconciliation/Confession, a Priest is an Alter Christus. Reconciliation is a Sacrament, and I am not aware it can be done by telephone.

The horse’s mouth, the pope himself, isn’t talking.

Why isn't he? He's usually quite loquacious. Especially with atheist newspaper editors or co-writing books with Jewsih rabbis.

It’s weird, he’s undercutting all the conservative movements of Pope Benedict.

So are we at the point where we can answer “no” to that rhetorical question about where bears do their business or whether the pope is catholic?

The real question: Is he purposely destructive, or just clumsy?

Perhaps because it's all true? After all, her number wasn't plucked out of the phone book at random. She specifically wrote to him about divorce-remarriage-Communion, one of his pet causes. He deliberately called her up to discuss this (knowing full well that it could be leaked). He and Cardinal Kasper seem to share a similar agenda. It's certainly within the realm of possibility that he has personally embraced the Kasper theology, that his pastoral advice is therefore a reflection of Kasper's "superb theology", and that what the woman has reported regarding the substance of the conversation between them is accurate. This would also help account for the Vatican spokesman's weak response to the public outcry and confusion incited by this phone call.

It could have something to do with the Seal of the Confession. If the conversation amounted to a confession, the Pope could not speak about it. It’s possible he may have told her that she could receive Communion if she stopped living in sin with the man she is calling her husband. Or, has it been reported if the husband was ever married in a sacramental marriage or not? I haven’t seen any clarification of that. If not, then the woman and the man would have to have their union “blessed” so that they would then be able to receive Holy Communion.

You can’t confess your sins over a phone. Even if she did, why is she still sleeping with a married man?
