Can someone explain this from the Catechism?
CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ^ | 05-31-14 | vanity

841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."330

>"On the contrary, they worship the one true God. "

They are NOT THE SAME!

841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." I think I can put it in proper perspective: Christians/Catholics belive in the trinity, Father-Creator, Son-Savior, Holy Spirit-Sanctifier. In as much as the Muslims believe in the Abrahamic God, the Father as Creator, they share that truth of our faith. Although, certainly not a fullness of truth as neither was Abrahams faith a fullness of all truth.

That's a new revelation to me that Allah and Jehovah are viewed the same by catholics.

I would disagree with this misunderstanding by Catholicism on the part of the God of the Bible and the god of Islam.

The Holy Bible teaches that God cannot be tempted by evil and neither tempts anyone with evil; evil being understood as referring to immorality and sin. James 1:13 (c.f. Psalm 5:4-5; Habakkuk 1:13)

Yet, the Quran teaches that Allah is the author of evil:

Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but it is He Who deceives them. And when they stand up for As-Salat (the prayer), they stand with laziness and to be seen of men, and they do not remember Allah but little. S. 4:142 Hilali-Khan

Not sure how this can be reconciled.

I agree, they need to accept Jesus.

They would be Jewish heretics. Even Christian heretics have to acknowledge the deity of Christ.

Lets also remember who ordered the crusades which pushed the Muslims back for 1000 years. The Pope. Now its just time for another crusade.

It’s not “worship” it’s “acknowledge”. That’s a subtle but significant difference.

Try reading things in context:

that's funny...a catholic wanting to read things in context.

I did read it in the context and that is what made me ask the question.

What I'm questioning is the belief that Jehovah and Allah are viewed as the same by catholics.

This next one is even more fun:

Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as “a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.”

the good of Hinduism is a preparation for the Gospel??

you can make the same claim about some protestant confessions that hold to strict double pre-destination, if you take it to its theological conclusion, then God predestined some men to do good and some do evil.

Muslims are not atheist, and they believe in God, they obviously misunderstand his nature [lack Trinitarian Doctrine and Christological view] and clearly have some misguided views of God.

Of the Abrahamic religions, theologically speaking Christianity > Judaism > Islam. Christians have the full revelation of the nature of God, that is, the Divinty of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Jews have a partial understanding of God, in that the know The Father but deny the Divinity of The Son and Holy Spirit. Muslims have a false, veiled understanding of The Father. Their understanding is so warped that they do not even know His true name YHVH, calling Him allah instead. In addition they deny the Divinity of The Son and Holy Spirit. For all that, muslim are attempting to render worship to YHVH, to the degree that they understand Him. CCC 841 is basically pointless post-V2 gobbledygook. God's plan of salvation includes all of humanity -- this does NOT mean universal salvation, but rather that God, in some way, provides every person with the opportunity to accept His freely offered grace. In short, CCC 841 says that God's plan of salvation applies to muslims, as it does to everyone, and that islam is an Abrahamic religion. A pointless reiteration of unrelated points, but hardly the "gotcha" that some Protestants seem to think it is.

nope...the catechism says catholics and muslims both adore the same merciful God.

I agree the plan of salvation is open to any who places their faith and trust in Christ and Christ alone.

“I would guess that typical Protestant teaching/thinking isn’t this deep or involved.”

I found your post’s summation refreshingly simple: “So there is some there and a lot missing.”

Since stumbling at ONE POINT of the Law means you’ve broken the whole, the “lot missing” is fatal. Jesus is the Way, and every other way is not.

that might be the theological understatement of the year....muslims have some misguided views of God.

muslims do not believe in God...they believe in Allah

they aren't the same in any sense.

“nope...the catechism says catholics and muslims both adore the same merciful God.”

Nope. That is your misreading and misstating of the very plain language of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Given that you have trouble with this, why should ANYONE trust your own, personal interpretation of God’s Word?

Like I said, muslims worship YHVH such as they can. They do not understand Him, but they try to worship Him.

Again, your inability to read and comprehend the simple language posted is both obvious and troubling.

Absent a few truly ignorant and illiterate trailer bound fundies, NO ONE who can read would misread the Catechism to suggest that “Jehovah and Allah are viewed as the same by catholics.”

That you do speaks volumes.
