No, the recent spate of leftist politicians coming out of GU are attributable to coddling of the left by current administrators. It's not as bad at GU as at Notre Dame and a lot of supposedly Catholic institutions, but it is bad. It was pretty conservative when I was there, and they fought vigorously against an effort to force them to fund a homosexual group on campus. They lost in court, and the homos have been taking over ever since. It got worse when former NFL head Paul Tagliabue got put on the Board. He has a son who is homosexual.

What they have mainly been over the years is a school that works to maintain close ties to power. The 90s consolidated power in the Clinton machine, the Bush years, filled with outsiders from Texas who did not cultivate ties to GU, saw those people infest the campus (Albright, et al.) and then, with Obama it went full-fledged lefty. They love getting big names to come speak on campus, and to do it, you have to suck up to Democrats, who have long memories. Republicans are just glad to be asked.
