That is not logically possible.
I have no doubt that to you it isnt. According to scripture however .
Deuteronomy 6:14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you
Exodus 23:13 Pay attention to all that I have said to you, and make no mention of the names of other gods, nor let it be heard on your lips.
Deuteronomy 32:17 They sacrificed to demons that were no gods, to gods they had never known, to new gods that had come recently, whom your fathers had never dreaded.
Joshua 24:2 And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, Long ago, your fathers lived beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods.
1 Corinthians 8:1-8 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that all of us possess knowledge. This knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that an idol has no real existence, and that there is no God but one. For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earthas indeed there are many gods and many lords
As you yourself quoted St. Paul:
we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one
The Holy Scripture teaches what the Catholic Church teaches.
I dont think you are paying attention. God talks about other gods that people serve. Did you notice the lower case g? Even in the original Greek the words Paul used in Corinthians are different when he says there are many gods and when he said there is no God but one. >>The Holy Scripture teaches what the Catholic Church teaches.<<
Not on this subject nor on many other subjects. Thats a serious problem with Catholics. They take what the RCC says over what scripture says so dont study scripture as the sole source for truth, thus the oversight of what words are being used and how they are used. Your take on it would have God contradicting Himself since it was God the Holy Spirit who inspired Paul to write what he did. The Catholic position would have Paul contradicting himself within that one chapter.
As usual, we see an RC quote from Scripture that ascribes a catechismal intent to a single verse which is in opposition to the theme of the passage or what the author clearly says. As CB states, (Even in the original Greek the words Paul used in Corinthians are different when he says there are many gods and when he said there is no God but one.) The Roman Catholic church group fails in many other aspects of life and again we see an attempt to change the Word of God to fit a meme of the group.
1 Corinthians 8: 1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that We all possess knowledge. But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. 2 Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know. 3 But whoever loves God is known by God.
4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that An idol is nothing at all in the world and that There is no God but one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many gods and many lords), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
Yes, I know what the passage says, without your opinions about it attached to it.
Muslims and Jews, certainly the pagans and Atheists, may not fully know The True God known to the Catholic Church, but to the extent that they serve God at all, that is the God they serve.
Wow! If that is what you believe who am I to stop you. I have shown you scripture where God Himself says people worship other gods. If that isnt proof enough for you Ill leave you to serve the same god as Muslims, Mormons, Buddhists and others.
You showed the scripture (or rather, I explained it to you), where people think they serve idols that they call gods.
What you think of me, I don’t care. I don’t take lessons from Protestants.
The one true God called them gods. Now, who should I believe? You or the one true God?
You should learn to read.
