I am. And I know when and where it happened.

**Are Catholics Born Again? (Ecumenical)**

Yes, and many non-Catholics cannot accept this fact.

I’m certainly glad to see you and your co-religionists coming around on the whole born again thing. Go back a few years on this forum and you’ll find Catholics mocking and attacking the very notion.

Welcome Home!

The truth that regeneration comes through baptism is confirmed elsewhere in the Bible.

so those who are dying who then confess Jesus as their Lord, repent of ther sins are not saved since they’ve never been baptised???

It seems to me that this “rebirth” experience, as it is practiced or occurs amongst “Evangelicals,” whatever that means, requires an act of human volition; an emotional (intellectual?) response.

Clarification??

All of the sacraments are intended for the graces of God to be extended throughout the life of every person.

Baptism - for the welcoming of every Christian.

Confession - for the redirection of one's soul back to God.

Eucharist - for the spiritual feeding of the flock.

Confirmation - for the reawakening of the purpose of one's soul.

Marriage - for the growth and maintenance of families.

Holy Orders - for the special need of the shepherds.

Extreme Unction - for the preparation of the soul to meet Jesus face to face.

Confirmation is really the Church's way of systemizing the action of being born-again in grace.

As a Catholic, I was Baptized about 2 weeks into this life. I did not really have a choice, as my biggest physical function was to push out a steamer.

I was born again when I learned what my faith was, and confirmed that with my Confirmation.

Mathew 3:11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Some probably are, some undoubtedly are not.

For an Evangelical, becoming "born again" often happens like this: He goes to a crusade or a revival where a minister delivers a sermon telling him of his need to be "born again."

"If you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and believe he died for your sins, you’ll be born again!" says the preacher. So the gentleman makes "a decision for Christ" and at the altar call goes forward to be led in "the sinner’s prayer" by the minister. Then the minister tells all who prayed the sinner’s prayer that they have been saved—"born again." But is the minister right? Not according to the Bible.

That Catholics writer clearly has no concept of what being born again is, means, results in, or Evangelical's understanding of the new birth.

Nice try for another hit piece on Christianity, but it's a fail from the get go.

for over 1,600 years Catholics considered themselves born again....then along came dissidents who decided to reinterpret what the true church had taught for centuries....thanks, but no thanks.

Some probably are. Many probably are not.

Just like in any other denomination.

The only variable is the percentages from church to church and denomination to denomination.

There’s no doubt a great many Catholics are born again... Despite being exposed to many doctrines that undermine the meaning of being born again.

Many Catholics are not born again and I hope they come to that point. I wish that for all.

What I said is equally applicable to every Protestant group.

There is Catholicism with its Catechism and Credo, the great mustard tree Christ spoke of His Church where the Eucharist is a core, central, and indispensable belief for salvation and then there are a withering and withered assortment of mushrooms beliefs of every other brand of Christianity under the sun, that are mostly pure unadulterated rubbish. Think Joel Osteen.

Anyone who denies the central truth of the Eucharist practices heresy.
This is why noted British essayist Hillaire Belloc in his Book “The Great Heresies,” said that unlike other heresies, Protestantism spawned a “cluster of heresies.”

John3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Luke 9:27
But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

Mark 9:1
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

It is hard to really understand the power that came on the day of Pentecost, each time I read it I see it a little clearer.

So say what you will, I have been born again because Jesus said you must be born again to see the kingdom of God and I do see it, the kingdom has been with us since the day of Pentecost.

Kind of an old post but I’ll add this:

First a good one which is why I’ll bump it with this post. I love Catholic Answers.

Second, another and unrelated thought (or is it unrelated? I’ll leave it to the reader to decide)

One of the best movies I’ve seen is “The Shawshank Redemption”. IMO. Even though it’s acted by leftist loons. In it Morgan Freeman’s character said something that has had a lasting impact on me to this day (and I’m paraphrasing here)

“At a certain point a man must make a choice: either get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’”

Some are, some aren’t; just as not all protestant church members are saved.

I thought the Catholic claim is that Catholics are BEING born again; by all of the things they DO that the church requires of them.
