Pope Francis, "If Mary is not your Mother, you are an orphan!"
Charisma News ^ | 9/5/2014 | Jennifer LeClaire

Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.

But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:

"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.

As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...

That was a rather telling statement wasn’t it.

Are you suggesting Mary enjoys being the focus of pagan worship?
It's only those who do not understand the Catholic faith (and most likely are anti-Catholic at their base) who think Catholics worship Mary. It's an old stale argument which is cleared up with research. We've been to over 10,000 Catholic Masses; Catholics do not worship Mary.

In all reality, protestantism is the existential threat, not Islam. Islam just kills the body.

Congratulations on forfieting the debate.

Indeed, as one again we have an RC acting in conflict with his CCC, though it does teaches that Muslims do worship the same God as Catholics, but V2 (which some RCs selectively may opt out of) clearly teaches:

LUMEN GENTIUM: "..there are many who honor Sacred Scripture, taking it as a norm of belief and a pattern of life, and who show a sincere zeal. They lovingly believe in God the Father Almighty and in Christ, the Son of God and Saviour. (Cf. Jn. 16:13) They are consecrated by baptism, in which they are united with Christ. They also recognize and accept other sacraments within their own Churches or ecclesiastical [Protestant] communities…"

"They also share with us in prayer and other spiritual benefits. Likewise we can say that in some real way they are joined with us in the Holy Spirit, for to them too He gives His gifts and graces whereby He is operative among them with His sanctifying power. Some indeed He has strengthened to the extent of the shedding of their blood." — LUMEN GENTIUM: 16.

• Dominus Iesus: "those who are baptized in these communities are, by Baptism, incorporated in Christ and thus are in a certain communion, albeit imperfect, with the Church.” “All who have been justified by Faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ: they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers by the children of the Catholic Church.” — http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20000806_dominus-iesus_en.html

And rather than killing the spirit, it is liberalism that overall predominates where Catholicism reigns, in contrast to evangelicals , who most strongly hold to the fundamental distinctive of the Reformation, that of Scripture being the only supreme standard as the wholly inspired word of God, with its transcendent moral laws and literal history. The former status and the latter aspect of which is denied in Rome.

That "protestantism is the existential threat, not Islam" must now compete with other outlandish statements made even recently by RCs. For since just the beginning of the month we have RCs,

Tell us will hear the entire Bible read aloud if they go to Mass every day for three years.

Respond to evidence that the Donation of Constantine was a forgery by charging me with possessing disinformation. Then deny his most obvious denial!

Assert the 7 apocryphal books in the Old Testament were the most cited by Christ in those Gospels.

That for over 1000 years there was no disputing the OT canon.

Continually contend against the CCC teaching that the Lord's return awaits His recognition by "all Israel" in the wake of the full number of the Gentiles have received the Lord.

Treat Protestantism as being one entity, and which has no real answer to the question "Why did God kill people?

Recommend reading the book “When Bad Things Happen to Good People” by Rabbi Kushner in answering this issue.

Assert the KJV has been responsible for the loss of more souls than any other book in history

Deny liberal RCs are Catholic in one post then assert all baptized Catholics remain Catholic regardless.

Classify Mormons as Protestants. Despite what their own church says and even FR.

Assert Christians may be Catholic or protestant, yet Catholics are the only real Christians, and that Mormonism is no different or worse than Protestantism, refusing to acknowledge cited Catholic distinctions (even salvific) it makes btwn those it holds as heretics (separated brethren vs. unbaptized non-Christians). Then (after being exposed) infer we misunderstand him without saying how.

Which is in addition to statements from the past. (like there is and never has been a bit of anti-Protestant bigotry on FR, and they never see threads of Catholics starting an argument with protestants on FR, and wealthy men must end their days in a monastery if they want to be saved. And Prots who do not convert to the Catholic church before death are lost even though they have the Holy Spirit and being part of the body of Christ, which 2 aspects are even denied later. And that most protestants are completely illiterate in what the Bible teaches, and Protestantism is absolutely alien to Christianity and should be faithful Prots should be eradicated from the face of the earth. Etc.)

Voting results are not in yet.

First you claimed Protestants made up the di vinci code. Now you admit it was atheists. I assume you realize atheists and Protestants are two different groups.

As a Catholic, are you exempt from the Ten Commandments?

Did you not “Bear False Witness” by your claim that Protestants wrote the di vinci code?

What is the wages of sin?

Will you pray to Mary for forgiveness?

You seem to have hit rock bottom. Here, take this jackhammer and dig your pit deeper.

To be more specific, I’m referring to this pagan babylonian goddess nonsense and the “hocus pocus” attitude towards the Eucharist. Where a protestant can chant the “magical” words of, “I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior” and they are saved, a miracle, but deny the same to the Eucharist and castigate it as some sort of medieval chant.

You mean like saying five “Our Fathers” and five “Hail Mary’s” to be forgiven?

I grew up in a Catholic household. I remember the rituals. I also remember the Priest placing the crown of flowers on a statue. The Romans did practiced similar activities in the Pantheon. But I guess your identical practices aren’t pagan worship. Is that what you’re claiming?

Jesus had great love and respect regarding his mother and urged us to do the same...this even if He were not God would fulfill duty to God under the Commandments given to Moses. I see nothing in Jesus word that relegate his mother as only a vessel for birth...I see many references, even to his death that praise her and ask others to embrace her.

Yes, he loves Mary. That doesn’t make her an object of worship nor “Celestrial Queen of Heaven,” nor “Coredemstrix.”

I know of no Christian that despises, disrespects or hates Mary. It’s just that we don’t pray to, worship or place false titles on her.

I’ll take that on = I am quite versed in gnosticism, and I would say you have that backwards. I see much of gnosticism in the Roman church.

Anything a Church teaches that is not in the Bible should be treated as highly suspicious.

Nobody ever said, “Jesus for me, but not for thee”.

Exactly, all along we’ve been saying only Jesus is sufficient for EVERYONE!

First you claimed Protestants made up the di vinci code. Now you admit it was atheists. I assume you realize atheists and Protestants are two different groups.

I made no claim about authorship. I question your reading comprehension. What I did do was make a characterization about the methodology and approach the da Vinci code makes with respect to the Church and how protestants adopt the same approach even if they were to disagree with the premise of the book.

Protestant or atheist makes no difference. The thought process is the same.

So, before you work yourself into a lather about bearing false witness I suggest you meditate on the source of that particular phenomenon.

There is ZERO of ANYTHING like this found in the bible.

Have you noticed the Catholics keep doing exactly what they accuse us of doing?

This must be where Nancy Pelosi gets it from.

You mean like saying five “Our Fathers” and five “Hail Mary’s” to be forgiven?

You remember poorly.

The form of the sacrament of penance, in which its efficacy chiefly consists, are those words of the minister: I absolve thee, etc., to which are indeed laudably added certain prayers according to the custom of holy Church, which, however, do not by any means belong to the essence of the form nor are they necessary for the administration of the sacrament. . . (Council of Trent, Fourteenth Session, Chapter III)

I also remember the Priest placing the crown of flowers on a statue. The Romans did practiced similar activities in the Pantheon. But I guess your identical practices aren’t pagan worship. Is that what you’re claiming?

Are they similar or are they identical? I suggest you ask yourself this question: Are you identical post-baptism?

You've done enough damage fracturing the Body of Christ and western civilization in your pursuit of a,”personal relationship with Jesus” exclusive of all other considerations. In all reality, protestantism is the existential threat, not Islam. Islam just kills the body. Protestantism kills the spirit.

Moslems have forced Christians to renounce Christ under torture and then beheaded them.

You consider those who murder Christ's followers superior to those who worship Him? Your hatred has blinded you to the point you side with those who despise Christ! You have bound yourself to those who murder, rape, torture and mutilate God's people and you will share in their destruction when He returns to establish his 1000 year reign.

Try reversing the statement, then matching against their catechism, to get all of the implications:

In all reality, Islam is not an existential threat. Islam does not kill the spirit.

841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."

And Scripture doesn’t say that every religious truth is contained in Scripture, or that Scripture the sole rule of faith.

Well there is the following:

Deu_4:2 Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you.
Deu_12:32 “So be careful to obey all the commands I give you. You must not add anything to them or subtract anything from them.
Pro_30:6 Do not add to His words, or He may rebuke you and expose you as a liar.

And don’t forget this which is one of the last things said to us:

Rev 22:18 And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book.
Rev 22:19 And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.

I’ve heard this claim yet I attended Mass from birth to the age of around twenty and never heard the passage in Leviticus 14 concerning mold and mildew read out loud. I also hadn’t heard Numbers 5: 11-31, the test for an unfaithful wife.

>>Catholics do not worship Mary.<≤

You need to realize that it's only Catholics that make that statement. It's obvious to any observer that they do indeed worship Mary. They kneel down to her, pray to her (by official Catholic admission).., and give her attributes only d with has. Denial can only be self dilusion.
