A letter and petition accusing Bishop Frank Dewane of the Diocese of Venice, Florida, of authoritarian leadership will soon be on its way to Rome, asking Pope Francis to intervene.
The campaign has been orchestrated by two liberal groups agitating for a more lay-directed Church. The Southwest Florida chapter of Call to Action wrote the letter, together with the support of the local chapter of Voice of the Faithful.
Call to Action, a group pushing for radical reform such as the ordination of women and a relaxing of sexual ethics, has accused Bishop Dewane of employing scare tactics including bullying and intimidation in his dealing with lay people. It also accuses him of dismissing several pastors and firing more than 20 workers without reason or hearing.
The letter calls Bishop Dewane “a man who operates more like the CEO of a large corporation than the shepherd of his community.”
Call to Action, though a Catholic dissident group, apparently thinks it can harness Pope Francis for its cause. “While Pope Francis values openness, dialogue, and consultation,” their letter states, “our bishop suppresses the open exchange of ideas.”
Though dated Aug. 28, the letter is only now being sent on to Rome after garnering 1,296 signatures, about 65% of the signatures that the group had hoped for.

I’m surprised that they got that many signatures, even though it’s Venice (FL), one of the not-so-conservative parts of the state.
So they’re unhappy with the traditions of the Catholic Church, a rational person would then find a church that fits their personal views. But we are dealing with liberal buffoons who believe that the church should change. See what I did there? I used the word buffoons instead of what I wanted to so I didn’t get banned.

Hard to say which way the Pope will go on this. With his
past track record with homosexual priests and his anti-
capitalists stance I would say a 40% chance he will
ignore it.
So why does the Pope get to wear a hat in church if it’s bad for men to wear hats in church?
Here is an idea: If you don’t want to be a Catholic, DON’T BE A CATHOLIC!
At least I was honest enough to make that choice but I respect those who stay with The Church.
Shouldn’t they just join the UCC - it’s congregational, which they seem to want, and it’s chocked full of lefties, so they’d fit right in theologically.
Laymen will remove their hats during the whole service, sine they are not functioning as priest, teacher or ruler.
The Bishop hands off the staff and remove the miter (hat)before he venerates the altar.
He will receive the miter back after the Collect (a.k.a. the Opening Prayer: the short prayer before the reading of the Epistle.).
He will remove the miter when the Alleluia verse before the Gospel begins, after he blesses the deacon or the priest.
He will remove the miter for the profession of faith (Creed).
He will wear the miter for the preparation of the altar, then remove it for the offertory. He will remove the zucchetto (kippah, yarmulke, beanie, whatever) after the Prayer over the Offerings.
He puts the zucchetto on after Communion is complete. He puts the miter back on and receives the staff for the blessing at the end of Mass.
This is the proper way of doing it according to the liturgical books. It all depends on whether his role at that particular time in the Mass is characterized by his authority (preaching, teaching, directing: he wears the hat) or his lowly contrition or petition or adoration (in which case he doesn't wear the hat.)
Congrats, now you know more than 99% of practicing Catholics.

the fact is that throughout the history of the Church, a Bishop has the responsibility to be a moral beacon and take definitive action against heretics. The fact that the Bishops have been negligent. Pro abortion Catholic politicians, lawmakers and judges should have been formally and publicly ex communicated long ago. Bishops are not meant to be popular, “nice guys” or politically connected. The proper role models are the Saints Thomas a Becket and Thomas More. Either they uphold and defend the Catholic faith or they are worse than useless.
Hate the sin and love the sinner doesn't include hanging out with the sinner and patting them on the back while they continue to mock Church Teaching.

The most visible dissenting group which is a movement of laity and religious seeking to reform the "sinful structure" of the "patriarchal" Church. One could call them the "mother of all dissenting groups" - feminist pun intended. CTA is infamous since its 1994 conference coverage on the CBS news program 60 Minutes. CTA promotes dissent against Church teachings on a broad front, including women's ordination, homosexuality, creation spirituality, married priesthood, and liturgical reforms, while incorporating new age and Wiccan spirituality. Bishop Bruskewitz excommunicated those that belong to this group in his Diocese. Many members belong to local groups called "small faith communities." Renew 2000 also promotes small faith communities. Membership draws heavily from former clergy, feminist nuns, and homosexuals. Members staff COR.
