Again (!) this Pope and his progressive henchmen just tried to change the Church's teachings on Sacraments for the divorced and remarried and homosexuality, but you're worked up about Voris' title of a blog post?!?

All supported by the bible and by the apostolic tradition.

Matthew 16:18-20 for papal infallibility for one.

Again, not supported by the Bible.

Brian i would never change the “Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura.”words .Words are important and if you lie about words they hurt people.Look at how many people responded to your post. They are saying they will leave the church. Is that what you and Michael want.Michael’s words have a reaction. They are negative .

He did not lie about the cardinal's words, he simply abbreviated them for a blog post title.

The time for naiveté and overly pious responses to harsh realities that have now been exposed is over.

Don’t know how you can harm something that’s already dead.

The Church is the Body of Christ. The gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Just as Christ had to suffer his Gethsemane, so must His Church. And just as Christ rose, so shall His Church.

You’re worried about “negative” reactions?

Jesus Christ was crucified due to “negative” reactions.

“He’s the POPE.”

Yes.

“He communicates with the Holy Spirit.”

And you don’t? Seriously, he has no more of channel TO the Holy Spirit than you or I. The Holy Spirit has a special channel to him, however, in that he is ordained and He protects him when he speaks ex cathedra.

“There sould be no politics about this.”

That only will happen when everyone on the planet is dead. Jesus had to deal with politics. I don’t know why people think it would be any different on this planet after His resurrection.

“The Church is not a Democracy.”

Correct.

“The POPE is supposed to tell all of us what GOD commands.”

Well, the pope is to lead and to clarify. We already know what God commands. He doesn’t command anything new. We have known all along.

“Is the POPE Catholic???”

Opinions vary. /s

No, really, he is Catholic. He’s just not very good at his job. I assume he means well. He is a very kind, gentle, and in many ways, humble man. He’s just not a very good pope. The last five popes have been fair-to-middling in terms - even Pope Benedict. This pope is a lousy communicator, he doesn’t clarify things well, he unintentionally encourages indifferentism, and he doesn’t seem to understand some of the complexities of the world. (A few he does get, i.e. the danger of ISIS for instance).

People shouldn’t get so upset over this pope though. He’ll die like all the other popes and he’ll be replaced. He’s 77 and has already hinted at the idea of stepping down.

“Jesus Christ was crucified due to “negative” reactions.”

No. He was crucified due to our sins.

“It is noteworthy that there was a Pope a long time ago who was planning to reverse church teaching. He experienced an unexpected death shortly after announcing his plans.”

“The current synod of bishops in Rome, called by Francis to encourage reform and modernization, set a ringing tone of compassion this week with an opening call for a more welcoming attitude toward gay people, unmarried couples, divorced Catholics who remarry, and children in these unions.”

So how long do you think Francis has to live?

When you post demonstrable falsehoods about fellow FReepers, expect to have your posts deleted. Is that how you think you’ll bring people closer to Christ?

God bless Cardinal Burke for standing tall in defense of the Church and her sacred teachings received from God, sacrificing his own position (and his own preferred assignments) in defense of the Truth.

That is not what the Catholic Church teaches or believes about the Pope’s authority, or his infallibility.

The Pope does NOT receive personal messages from the Holy Spirit. He can be mistaken in many of his beliefs, and he can govern unwisely and unjustly.

As Cardinal Burke has just affirmed, a Pope can harm the Church.

“Negative reactions” includes our sins. But how can anyone deny that the Scribes, Pharisees, Judas, and the mob “reacted negatively” to Jesus. Certainly the mob in Nazareth that tried to push him off a cliff reacted negatively.

Luther, like everyone, must have wondered how God could allow a wicked man to be the visible head of his Church. All types of moral problems confronted Luther even in his own country of Germany. Luther was scandalized, as anyone who loved God should have been. He allowed the scandal to drive him from the Church.”

Not exactly... Luther tried for YEARS to reform the Catholic church from the wickedness and debauchery its leaders had sunk to. In turn, he got threatened, persecuted, chased out of his home, pursued by kings, princes and clergy in order to execute him. It was when he was excommunicated for refusing to recant his thesis and preaching questioning the novel doctrines, depraved clergy and perverted gospel within the Roman Catholic church, that he finally left. The "scandal" was not remedied from within as it should have been and is why he, as well as thousands of others, left. They did not give up on their faith but chose to worship with those who also realized that the "fullness of the faith" could no longer be found with the leaders in Rome.
