But Jesus did clarify what the works of God really are didn't He.
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Jesus goes on to say.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
Matthew 22
34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Jesus was not talking about the letter of the law here, he was putting it simple.
So I do not believe we have any disagreement but we need to realize that although Jesus did not give us a bunch of don`ts, he did give us some do`s.
And if we believe in him we will try our best to do the one`s he gave us which is why James said I will show you my faith by my works.
Mathew 7
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
This is how we keep the two greatest commandments and of course I fail miserably even though it is such a small thing.
Many people will say that they follow Jesus in all things, if they do not do these things maybe they should just say they are trying to follow him.
