It would not make them Protestant. It would make the Pope Protestant.

In such a case, the bishops would be adhering to the teaching of the Catholic Church, and the Pope would be departing from it.

What if the Pope then began to make proclamations all ex cathedrally-like? Would his pronouncements therefore not be worth a hill of beans as far as the Kingdom of God is concerned?
