Hugh Hewitt Argues Against the Afterlife and God's Reward
Hugh Hewitt, Salem Radio host and establishment GOP par exellance (famous for being a Romney acolyte and biographer) was just on the Dennis Prager show arguing that a person's morality is unaffected by their belief or non-belief in the after life or Heaven or Hell.
Prager, Jewish and a fellow Salem host, argued the opposite.
I didn't recognize Hugh's voice and at first thought it was a liberal caller sparring with Dennis, saying that whether or not one believes in the after life has no bearing in whether they act in a good or moral manner, that the reward of Heaven or punishment of Hell has no bearing on anyone's actions.
I was surpassed to find it was Hewitt making this argument. It is fundamentally anti-Christian to argue such.
Hewit made the ludicrous argument that the Isalmist butchers believe in the afterlife and it doesn't keep them from doing evil.
Prager pointed out that, the Islamist thinks doing evil brings the afterlife reward, compared to Jewish or Christian belief which is exact opposite, pointing out the argument didn't make any sense.
Hewitt acknowledged that was a good point. But he followed up with anecdotes about his acquaintances who do not believe in Heaven or Hell who act morally and he made an assertion that there is something in people that causes them to act morally, fear of Hell nor anticipation of Heaven having no impact.
He finished by saying if Dennis Prager did not believe in God he'd still be the same Dennis Prager and hold the same moral views and act as morally.
The whole thing was bizarre and seemingly out of character for Hewitt who presents himself as a former Catholic, now evangelical. He also was stating Christians are more and more not believing in the afterlife, which was bizarre.
Just wanted to put this out there.
Did anyone else hear this exchange?
"Carpetbagger" -- {^) Spot on!!!
I knew he was from the Midwest because culturally, he is/was always so incredibly ... well, UNCalifornian, chronically dorky. His taste in music (folk music?? AAAAARRRRrrrrrgghhhh!!!)????? And it was uncanny, when he'd start talking about cars, he exhibited absolutely the WORST taste or sense of style imaginable -- he wouldn't know a hot car if it bit him in the patoot!! (!!! I'm such a snob! Comes from being a 5th gen native CA) -- but he lives here and has made his name here, so just like Pelosi and Boxer and Feinstein, who are no more California than Hugh is, gives California a bad name!
Harvard actually filled their affirmative action slot for dork when they admitted Hugh, little known fact. I’ve heard him mention that his best bud is a lefty. My guess is Erwin Chemerinsky who appears to be Hugh’s equal in dork. They probably go car shopping together.
I’ve heard about 10,000 of these same errant messages. If you read the text...the man is incorrect.
LOLOLOL!!! {^)
But I bet even Erwin -- who sounds exactly like the Erwin in those ghastly Sit n Sleep mattress commercials ("You're killing me, Larry!") -- has better taste in music. YIKES!!! At least Hugh had the good sense to let Mark Larson sub-host for him in the early days, though I think they must have had a falling out; Mark Larson was A HOOT and a half!!!
On a serious note, when Hugh went to bat for Erwin Chemerinsky as Big Kahuna at UCI's new legal school (I think that's where it was), a position offered to Erwin and then rescinded when they realized what a screaming leftist he was -- that went a very long way to rubbing out most of the respect I had for Hugh. IN HIS IVORY TOWER, it was easy for Hugh to be "principled" and push for Chemerinsky -- but where would Hugh be in the on-the-ground consequences, when Chemerinsky ended up with some powerful judicial appointment and did real flesh-and-blood damage to real people in his decisions?
Hugh is the Poster Boy for pointy-headed ivory tower out-of-touch intellectual. And DORK!!
“On a serious note, when Hugh went to bat for Erwin Chemerinsky as Big Kahuna at UCI’s new legal school (I think that’s where it was),”
That’s where it was. And this occurred while Hugh’s good buddy Erwin Chemerinsky was helping the gay mafia sue the Boy Scouts in order to force them to admit homosexual Scoutmasters. That’s a real world consequence that Hewitt enabled.
But considering that Hugh promoted David Dreier for years I suppose the gay issue isn’t significant to him. Some of his listeners might have considered Dreier’s personal predilection important when he was being considered for House Majority Leader but they wouldn’t have heard a peep out of our favorite dorky progressive Republican. And likewise he somehow neglected to inform us of Neel Kashkari’s support for gay marriage. Go figure.
