Pope Francis Equates Christian Fundamentalists to Islamist Killers & Terrorists

Pope Francis equated Christianity with Islam while leaving Turkey.

“We have our share of fundamentalists” too.

The pope also said fighting poverty and hunger were key to defeating Islamist killers. Ugh.

The Jerusalem Post reported:

Pope Francis said Sunday that equating Islam with violence was wrong and called on Muslim leaders to issue a global condemnation of terrorism to help dispel the stereotype.

Francis, the leader of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, told reporters aboard his plane returning from a visit to Turkey that he understood why Muslims were offended by many in the West who automatically equated their religion with terrorism.

Francis’ predecessor, Benedict XVI, caused storms of protest throughout the Islamic world in 2006, when he made a speech that suggested to many Muslims that he believed Islam espoused violence.

Benedict said he had been misunderstood and apologized. But this year, the image of a violent religion has once more been promoted by Islamic State, who have seized swathes of Syria and Iraq, slaughtering or driving out Shi’ite Muslims, Christians and others who do not share their radical brand of Sunni Islam.

The Argentine pope, who has been trying to foster cooperation with moderate Islam in order to work for peace and protect Christians in the Middle East, said it was wrong for anyone to react to terrorism by being “enraged” against Islam.

“You just can’t say that, just as you can’t say that all Christians are fundamentalists. We have our share of them (fundamentalists). All religions have these little groups,” he said.

Muslims slaughtered 683 innocents THIS WEEK.

Christian fundamentalists have killed no one.

Someone needs to talk with this pope.

I guess that after we had three or four very credible popes in a row (each different, but I think all very respectable), now we got this one....

to put it kindly, nobody’s luck lasts forever....?

Aren’t popes suppose to be experts on religion? It’s not like you have to train a bunch!

The current pope is an affirmative action pick and just like the disaster we have in the US over getting Obama as a result, the Catholic church now has its own disaster to deal with.

A critical remark about Biblical fundamentalism from the head of a church who famously murdered 50,000 Albigenians, as many Cathars and Waldensians. Then moved on the the medieval inquisitions in Spain, Portugal, employing the Dominicans and Jesuits to carry out Gregory XIII Inquisition. Then on thru the ages right up to the Condordat of 1929 with Mussolini turning a blind eye to the killing of 800,000 Bosnians and Croats, with the tacit approval of Pope Pious IX. It has been estimated that since 1177 the mass murder of "heretics" ordered by the popes have grown to between 70 million and 100 million. Of course, the catholics did not employ beheading routinely. They perfected the art of racking, stretching, the garruchua, strappado, toca, malleus malefactor, and then on to the skinning and or burning, even children, alive on a wooden pyre.

And this pope dares to declare moral equivalency of terrorist Muslims and fundamental Bible-believing Christians? Look in the mirror Francis. Where are the Archbishops to rein him in?

Estimated by lunatics.

This is like bizzaro world... The anti-80s... when we had Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II... 2 great conservative leaders. Add Lady Thatcher in there for the trifecta...

No. It’s not.

It’s idiocy.

It’s generally leftists who can’t do math who say such things.

You saying it is idiocy does not remove the stain to the Inquisitions ordered by the Popes and carried out by his appointees. Look at the persecution of the Albigenians, Cathars, the Lopers. Wycliff, Hus, the witch hunts of the 15th century, the treatment of Jews in Spain by the Popes. Check out the Cardinal Juan de Torquemada (a particularly nice fellow), the Portugal Inquisition, then the Lutherans, the Lollards, Calvin, and so much more. Before you shoot of your mouth why don’t you try reading a little history and present the facts, not your invective. Once you begin with invective, devoid of logic and reason, you have lost the debate. Don’t write back to me.

It’s hard to believe you can be so bereft of any mathematical or numerical ability, or ability to think and analyze critically or rationally.

70 - 100 million is a very large number, my friend.

All religions have their fanatics. Catholics have people who pray in Latin, Muzzies have people who chop off heads.

Same same.

Agree with you. Totally agree. It used to be that I was excited that it seemed we could be the generation to go through the tribulation and not taste death before we meet our Lord. But as it unfolds there is a sense of amazement, but sadness. Many are so lost and it might come to pass that even we will need to stay vigilant in guarding our faith and salvation.
