1 Thess 4:1-8 lays out when a church has rejected God. The UMC has definately rejected God.

1 Thess 4:1-8 Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living.
Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.
7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

For what it's worth, the UMC has NOT rejected those things but has repeatedly reaffirmed them for decades upon decades now, beating the heretics at every single denominational meeting.

What you mean to say is that the UMC has no mechanism to rid itself of the heretics and that it should split. I would agree with that.

No, Eastern Orthodox Christians are catholic (small c), not Catholic (upper case C) Churches. The latter example are Churches in union with Rome.

Similar to how there are libertarians (lower case l), in many political parties, but Libertarians (upper case L) are members of the Libertarian Party. Period.

Rather I view the Orthodox Churches are those Churches that have not come home......yet to Rome.

During the first thousand years that was how it went.

“It is not ‘almost if not completely apostate’.
It’s about 60% believer and 40% apostate.”

For congregations (including local leadership) I believe that may yet be correct. For ordained-anything and beyond, not so much. That’s mostly why I left ‘their ministry.’

I really think that the last thing Jesus wanted to do was to start a new ‘religion;’ He had enough problems with the one he was in. I may be wrong here, but weren’t they the ones seeking the death penalty?

Pax Domini
