Catholic Profs Told to Report Opposition to 'Gay Marriage' as Harassment

Milwaukee, Wis., Dec 9, 2014 / 04:03 am (CNA/EWTN News).- An anti-harassment training presentation at a Catholic college encourages employees to report critics of “gay marriage” – and could reflect recent federal decisions that the belief in marriage as a union of a man and a woman is discriminatory.

Part of the employee anti-harassment training at the Wisconsin-based Marquette University includes a presentation with a comic strip-style story about a fictional employee named “Harassed Hans,” a man in a wheelchair. The training encourages Hans to report to the university human resources his co-workers Becky and Maria who “have been talking about their opposition to same-sex marriage” all week.

“Their co-worker Hans is offended, but he struggles with whether to report the situation,” the comic says.

“Hans is right to report Maria and Becky’s conversation,” the presentation later adds.

The presentation shares the federal government’s new understanding that beliefs about marriage as a union only of one man and one woman can be a source of discrimination and illegal harassment.

Since 2012, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has held “sex stereotypes” like “the belief that men should only date women or that women should only marry men” to be illegal discrimination on the basis of sex. This is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the commission said in a news briefing on enforcement protections for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) workers.

If by “discriminatory” they mean the ability to think and discern and apply logic then I suppose it is. Truth discriminates against lies. Good discriminates against evil. Right discriminates against wrong. Good sense discriminates against nonsense.

It is truly incredible that a person could construe an entirely new meaning to a law from 1964 to mean something very different than the Congress that wrote, debated and passed it. No one from back then would have thought so perversely.

Not to mention that through that through such verbal violence, not only would free speech become illegal, but even a "belief"--mere thought--has been deemed illegal.

People that would do this to our freedoms should clean animal cages and be allowed little else.

Sneed is told the once-wrist slapped fiery peace priest — the Rev. Michael Pfleger — and his new boss, Archbishop Blase Cupich, have yet to have a private sitdown.

But while Pfleger was leading worshippers out of church pews Sunday to take to the streets protesting the deaths of young black men at the hands of police, Cupich was conducting his own gesture of solidarity with the protesters in the pews.

To wit: Cupich, during Sunday Mass at Holy Name Cathedral, invited all to join him in prayer and raise their hands in a show of support for the protesters while seated.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee: the Abp SHOULD insist that Marquette cease this scandalous corruption or lose its right to call itself a 'Catholic' university. (The Abp does not own or control the University, but he does own/control their right to call themselves Catholic.)

However, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee was corrupt for decades under Abp. Weakland, and ---- barring a miracle or a couple of timely myocardial infarctions --- remain corrupt under Abp. Cupich.

I could not live there. As a Catholic, I'd have had to move to a different Diocese decades ago.
