Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

I believe that His Father protected Him from bowing to temptation...He was tempted you know.

There is no indication that the Father protected Jesus from sin or temptation.

Jesus was tempted in all the ways humans are. He was not protected...He rose above temptation all on His own.

This was His test of Godhead.

He proved He was God by individually defeating temptation.

He needed nothing from God or Mary.

This was His moment!

And you still haven't given us the source for your corruption of Scripture.said the person who left the true church of Christ to do things on her own.

Needs to be more specific.

Chapter, verse, and version.

Doing so is not lack of charity.

Agreed; but sometimes the way one does it can be uncharitable in itself. Yes, Jesus, in His Authority spoke so to the Pharisees at times, but didn't He also show kindness to sinners, even sadness at their disbelief? The Pharisees used the letter of the Law to their own purposes; Jesus simply said to love God and love one's neighbor.

You asked why I was here. I want to hear what it was that brought people to God; things He has done in their lives; how they worship and praise Him! I'm not here to mock and criticize, nor did I expect to be in return; I wanted to better understand fellow Christians in a great nation that is unfortunately losing the Judeo-Christian principles it was founded upon. As God is being more and more put aside in the public arena, we need to find our common ground of love and praise for Him.

protestants have never been able to explain ANYTHING to Catholics....not even why they are/became protestants!!

Why am I a Christian?

I am a sinner and deserve death and eternal punishment. Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23

Now for the Good News!

I believe, based on the Word, that Jesus died for my sins and they are completely forgiven...past, present and future. John 3:16 and Colossians 2:14

My faith is in Him and Him only. He is the only way to Heaven. There are no other paths. John 14:6

Through His mercy I have 'round the clock access to Him. Ephesians 3:12 and Hebrews 4:16

He has adopted me into His family. Ephesians 1:5 and Romans 8:15-17

The Holy Spirit lives in me and guides me during the day. He quickly convicts me when I sin. John 14:16 BTW...He's fast!

I believe based on the Word He will not leave me alone. John 14:18

I look forward to spending eternity with Him....though I do not deserve it.

There is hope for you TC. It is not in the RC...but in the embrace of your Lord.

Seek the Truth, and turn away from error when you see it...even in the Catholic or Protestant Church.

Go to Yeshuah directly and not through His mom. He will understand and will answer you concerns.

Ask Him.

How often must this application take place? Why the need for repetitions?

many times every day 24/365

Christ commanded us to do THIS....in His memory.....so, Catholics do THIS as He instructed.

There is no need for a memory of Christ.

He is alive and is calling you...

Got to Him directly...and alone.

Your opinion, but God clearly stated in Luke Chapter 1 that Mary was Blessed by God.

All born again believers are blessed by God as Mary was.

Mary and Grace

The word grace used in this passage in Luke is used in one other place in the Bible and that is Ephesians 1 where Paul is us that with this same grace, God has blessed us (believers) in the Beloved. IOW, we all have access to that grace and it has been bestowed on us all.

http://biblehub.com/greek/5487.htm

Luke 1:28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”

Ephesians 1:4-6 In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

Greek word “grace”

charitoó: to make graceful, endow with grace

Original Word: χαριτόω

Part of Speech: Verb

Transliteration: charitoó

Phonetic Spelling: (khar-ee-to'-o)

Short Definition: I favor, bestow freely on

Definition: I favor, bestow freely on.

HELPS Word-studies

Cognate: 5487 xaritóō (from 5486 /xárisma, "grace," see there) – properly, highly-favored because receptive to God's grace. 5487 (xaritóō) is used twice in the NT (Lk 1:28 and Eph 1:6), both times of God extending Himself to freely bestow grace (favor).

Word Origin: from charis

Definition: to make graceful, endow with grace

NASB Translation: favored (1), freely bestowed (1).

Everything that Mary has done was for the Glory of God.

Proof?

Mary is the Mother of God. That is not my opinion but a biblical fact. Deal with it.

It's not a Biblical fact. The term is found NOWHERE in Scripture.

The term *mother of Jesus* is, however.

I'll stick with agreeing with the Holy Spirit in what He inspired in Scripture: *Mary, the mother of Jesus*.

That way, I KNOW I can't be wrong.

The Holy Spirit is clear in Scripture in calling Mary *the mother of Jesus*.

John 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.

John 2:3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”

Acts 1:14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Deal with it.

I pray to Mary daily, about 50 times. The Father makes me. When I forget, He reminds me.

God the Father would NEVER make someone to pray to anyone but Himself.

The subject, as I joined the conversation in post 1266, is the “sacrifice conducted during a Roman Catholic Mass”.

You apparently have replied mistakenly to a post of which you did not understand the subject matter.

However in Genesis 9:21 the Bible notes Noah got drunk. So Noah sinned. Sure sounds like John understood the world was full of sinners. the kiddies are sinners.

you have to be kidding....If Noah, getting drunk was a sin, the Jesus, making a bunch of wine LATE IN THE WEDDING PARTY was intentionally leading people into sin.

John did, indeed, realize that the world was full of sin but that in no way implied that ALL the people in the world were sinners.

Kiddies???????not a chance that a just God would consider kiddie behavior sinful.

You never did mention the mentally deficient...a person aged 40 with the I.Q. of a 2 year old can sin????? Please, I'm certain that God considers them among the chosen, even if they have no idea or concept of who He is.

You know what happened there with your post.....

There was Greek letters in it. When there is Greek in it, it uses HTML even though it doesn’t look like it.

So if you want italics, bold, paragraphs, whatever, you have to add the HTML yourself.

>> “An honest question: where do you think people go after they die since Jesus died and rose from the dead?” <<

.
If they died in faith, they go to the same place that all of Yehova’s elect go to wait until the last trump: “The Bosom of Abraham.” That portion of Hades reserved for the elect.

Yes there is a heaven, but our ultimate dwelling place will be not heaven, but the New Jerusalem that Yeshua has prepared for us. The marriage supper of the Lamb will be in heaven, on the sea of fire and glass, before we return to Earth to rule with him for 1000 years.

These things are well described in the word, which is why I suggested that more reading was in order.

.

That canned repetitious writing is so sacrilegious!.... They’re offering themselves ‘entirely’ to a false mary...not Jesus as He has said to do. They’re ‘devoting’ themselves to her...their “whole being”....as a “possession” and “property”....not to Jesus. That prayer is people putting their focus, hope, and prayers in Mary instead of Jesus. That’s is heresy. It is idolatry........It would be impossible for a true Christian to make that commitment....

no it isn't!

Unless of course they have a fixtion on the catholics mary because she is female and they have none in their life for whatever reason, so they need to identiyt with one.....or those who need a mother figure...but even then...clinging to the skirt of a false idol will rob you have what Jesus has that’s far better....

Your post 1311.....people don’t bow down and offer prayers to pictures of their kids.

Another prime example of not understanding Catholicism, yet feeling free to comment on it.

Catholics do not pray to statues...we buy them, they are made out of cement, they, in and of themselves have no power to do anything but make good paperweights. However, we use them for decoration (most are quite pretty) and we use them to remind us of the people that they represent.

having been reminded of that person, Mary, Jesus, St Theresa, whoever, we then think of that person as we say our prayer either directly to Jesus, or asking that person to please intervene on our behalf to Jesus....see how easy it is!!!!
