It sure is funny how Catholics love to use a partial quote of 2 Peter 1:20 as authoritatively proving the Catholic church is the exclusive entity capable of interpreting the Bible.

But they twist it to mean the exact opposite of what Peter said.

Does this passage mean that an individual cannot know the meaning of scripture by studying it? Of course not.

Acts 17:11

Here, Luke writes how the people of Berea did not just take Paul’s word for it. They checked out the scriptures to see if what he was saying is true. They confirmed that it was true and consistent with God’s word, and they believed and were saved.

The Gnostics taught that there was secret knowledge available only to the initiated. Yet Peter says that the interpretation is NOT PRIVATE. The interpretation is the meaning. Not being private means it is public information.

It means what it means. It does not require going through some higher authority other than its own authority.

Gifted teachers are part of the true church made up of all believers. They can help other believers in their study, but it is ultimately up to each individual to “search diligently” as the Bereans, to see if what is being taught is true and Biblical.

It is not man nor an external visible entity that reveals the truth of Scriptures to men’s hearts. It is the work of the Holy Spirit.

John 16:13
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

This is what Christ Himself taught, and I choose to believe what He says rather than following the doctrines of men.

Once again, quick to tell others what to think, because the "catechism tells them so"...

It is easy to know what Peter meant, when considered in the Greek language in which it is quoted. It doesn't take any interpretation to distinguish the role of Peter, and the role of Christ. Whether in Hebrew or in Greek, the same application of Word applies to Jesus, and to the Scriptures that point at Him, THE ROCK!

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

The same Peter, denied the Lord thrice, as prophesied. The same Lord died on the cross to save mankind from a sure death... separation from Him due to the wages of sin. Peter was chosen to be one of His followers, along with eleven more. Peter's rank was disciple, not pope. His ministry was to the jews. Rome was never the center of Christian life, and it certainly never became anything more than that except in the minds of the cult which follows it's leadership. Sure, there are millions of those, but it is clear from a simple reading of Scripture that Rome is not to be followed, Jesus Christ is the only source of Truth.

Wow. Where to begin. You are engaging in a discussion. You are using words. Words have meanings. How do you know what my previous post means? Are you a mind reader?

Peter clearly states his purpose for writing his epistles (letters):

Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.

2 Peter 3:1-2
Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior.

See how he uses words? See how words have meanings?

The same Spirit of God Who inspired Peter to write these things is also the same Spirit Who indwells believers and teaches them what His Word means.

There are many conflicting and false teachings about what the Bible means. Rather than abandoning our personal responsibility to study and allowing a religious entity to take the place of the Holy Spirit; the solution is to seek God for wisdom through prayer, study the scriptures which God inspired and preserved, and submit to Him in faith.

There is no mysterious and secret mind of Peter which needs to be read. Peter, Paul and the other apostles shared with us the word of God which came from the mind of God. Believers do not need to be “mind readers” to understand because God has given to us the mind of Christ.

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. It was a statement made in the form of a question, and it was answered twice. The problem comes into the picture when the answer isn't acceptable due to a preconceived viewpoint in opposition to Scripture. It comes from a blind obedience to the doctrines of the cult to which they belong.

The Roman Catholic group is the largest cult in the world, since it requires obedience to the groupthink instead of what God clearly presents to us in His Word!

We prayed that night, all night next to my son’s bed, we also had a prayer chain informed by my sister-in-law and many people stayed up all over the nation to pray for my son in Jesus Christs Name.
