Commandment 6-10 all start with the same word. If you look at the tablets, you can see it, reading from right to left, even if you don’t read Hebrew.

The two letter word that starts each of the last 5 commands is “LO.” In Arabic the same word is pronounced “La”.

It means “NO!”.

We have translated it as “Thou Shalt Not”.

To this misguided pastor, I have only one question.

“What part of “No” do you not understand?”

In Hebrew, they are indeed referred to as “The 10 Sayings” (or more fancily, “Utterances.”

Strong's concordance H4687 is used in Deut 5:29. The Hebrew word is "mitsvah" (מִצְוָה). The root word in Strong's H6680 (tsavah; צָוָה).

Either way - the meaning is pretty unambiguous: command, commandment, precept, law, ordinance... with the root indicating a giving of orders, giving a command, giving a commission or charge. It's a word that sounds like there's an imperative action involved.

Both H4687 and H6680 are used in Deut 6:1.

That took about 5 minutes.

This “re-worked version of the ten commandments” reads more like the failed soviet constitution .

For purposes of legal definition I suppose it is a church but otherwise I am not so sure it qualifies.

12/24/15. Gosh. He should be kicked out of our convention. I had never heard of him or the church before this.

Sounds like a cult to me, I would refuse to call them “Christian”, personally.

Nice websites for Perry and NewSpring church.

But neither has a ‘what we believe’ section.

Christians beliefs are public, and any Christian ministry should let outsiders know what they believe.

Yes.

No matter how it’s translated, God left no room for negotiation.

“Do the Southern Baptists actually put up with his garbage?”

It would appear that the “Church that left me”, aka - Roman Catholic Church has jumped the shark with the latest pope.

Should the Southern Baptists do so also, we may as well give up.

A while back on Free Republic someone posted something about someone who had written a book about “Therapeutic Moral Diesm” and this church certainly meets the mark of that. I seriously doubt that Paul, Peter, or other of the early church fathers would have done much except denounce this as a heresy along with gnosticism and some of the other heretical doctrines the grew up in the first four hundred years of the church.

I do not understand why a guy who thinks he can rewrite the ten commandments has any credibility. Given that, he also bases the whole premise on a false and easily disproved idea that there is no word in Hebrew for “command”, again why would this guy have any followers at all?
