Queens of Heaven. Mary and Kuantan Yin
1/24/15 | Self

Posted on 01/24/2015 4:16:35 PM PST by ifinnegan

Here are artistic representations of two goddesses who are considered the Queen of Heaven and Goddesses.

The Buddhist/Taoist Kuan Yin (or Guan Yin) (觀音)

And

The Catholic depiction of Mary

Note the similarities in representation.

This relates to a thread last week on the leftover, or accretional pagan beliefs or rituals that are still present in the Catholic church.

The Goddess of Mercy is a universal idol/icon in pagan belief systems.

"Well he most definitely didn’t create the catholic church."

Both history and the Bible say otherwise.

“While I am a protestant, I will note that some authorities suspect that the Chinese goddess is actually an accretion from early Christianity; and so, in this example, not the reverse.”

This is my second response to this.

I see what you are saying. It is possible Guan Yin iconography was influenced by Mary iconography.

I think that lends too much credence to pagan theologies. Something cannot be dismissed simply because a similar idea exists (likely or assuredly inspired by Satan himself for the purpose of muddying the waters) in a false religion.

Christ's Blood washes humanity -- but the pagan Aztecs believed, in essence, that human blood could appease the gods, such as they were. Pagan religions contain innumerable such similarities, often inverted as with Mesoamerican human sacrifice.

I am not a Buddhist.

Have you converted yet?

"But the drawback is obvious as well in that a false theology and misdirected focus away from Christ can become entrenched and be a stumbling block for believers who are Catholic."

Mary draws attention TO, not away from, Christ. See "Wedding at Cana" for the first BIBLICAL example. Your "understanding" is nil.

Interesting comments.

There are counterfeits and there is seeing through a glass darkly.

“Mary draws attention TO, not away from, Christ. See “Wedding at Cana” for the first BIBLICAL example. Your “understanding” is nil.”

But in calling Mary a “co-redemptrix” and in claiming she, like Jesus, never sinned, it cannot but Misdirect focus from Christ.

Thanks for your suggestion to look at the Wedding at Cana sections of the Bible.

I will do that with your comments in mind.

“While you are at it Muslims consider Fatima “Queen of Heaven”. I got into an argument with a muzzie over this. I said Mary was, he said Fatima was.”

Interesting.

I’m not sure who Fatima was.

And is it just a coincidence that Mary is also Our Lady of Fatima?

Fatima was the daughter of Mohammed.

Fatima was a town in Portugal, named after a different Fatima. Mary appeared in that town, hence “Our Lady of Fatima”.

It was said that the Fatima in Portugal was muslim but became Catholic.

as many as the anti-protestant replies will.

these threads boil down to meaninglessness. much more bad than good come from them. i don’t advocate banning them but I will take their opportunity to mention the devolve into hurling insults and I believe they do more damage than good.

Thanks for refreshing my memory.

I know about Fatima and Mary appearing there.

I probably knew Fatima was Mohammed’s daughter in he recesses of my knowledge.

Thanks for contributing that bit of info.

We may disagree, but I don’t think there is a Queen of Heaven, I don’t think that is taught in the Bible, but it is a universal belief and Fatima is another example.

NOWHERE in the Bible does it say that God created the Catholic church.

I appreciate, love and support my Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ.

So if you believe they're in Christ, why worry about what they believe in regard to Mary?

>" “her immaculate conception, perpetual virginity, assumption into heaven, her Queenship, and her role in God’s plan of salvation as Co-redemptrix” "<

None of these are the properties of a goddess in the Christian context because none of it was granted her by or for her own merit. God alone granted and grants Mary her role in His plan of salvation.

Yet Mary still plays no role in our salvation. NONE.

"I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6

It is only in Christ do we have salvation. It is only through Christ that we have forgiveness of sins. There is zero mention of any Mary playing any role in our salvation in the New Testament. None.

Mary plays absolutely no part in any of this. Yet, if catholics have their way there will be a fifth marian dogma elevating her to an even higher degree of false worship than she has been accorded.

How sad that Satan has used the mother of Christ to distract so many in the rcc.

In my new book, Behold Your Mother: A Biblical and Historical Defense of the Marian Doctrines, , I spend most of its pages in classic apologetic defense of Mary as Mother of God, defending her immaculate conception, perpetual virginity, assumption into heaven, her Queenship, and her role in God’s plan of salvation as Co-redemptrix and Mediatrix. But perhaps my most important contributions in the book may well be how I demonstrate each of these doctrines to be crucial for our spiritual lives and even our salvation.

From a thread posted earlier today on FR.

The false narrative of Mary being crucial for our salvation continues and catholics are delighting in the falsehood.

Thanks

Where is that one?

Taiwan?

China?

There might be some great Mary statues out there.

It would be cool if someone posted some as well.
